Fall back, swap your brush! 🕰️🪥

This Sunday, November 1, we turn the clocks back and get an extra hour (yay!). While you're resetting the microwave clock, grab a fresh toothbrush for everyone in the house too.

It's a simple family tradition that's easy to remember:

🕰️ Change the clocks
🪥 Change the toothbrushes
😁 Enjoy healthier smiles

Bonus: let the kids pick out their own new brush in a favorite color. It makes brushing a little more fun!

Plot twist: chocolate might be one of the BEST Halloween treats for your teeth! 🍫🎃

Chocolate and peanut butter cups melt away quickly, so sugar spends less time on your enamel.

The trickier treats?

🍭 Lollipops and hard candies linger in your mouth and can chip teeth
🍬 Caramels, taffy, and gummies stick in hard-to-reach places
🍋 Sour candies combine sugar AND acid, which is extra tough on enamel

So when you sort the candy haul, let the chocolate win! 👻

Think your dental checkup is just about your teeth? Think again. 🦷💗

October is both National Dental Hygiene Month AND Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and they have more in common than you'd expect. Both are about one thing: taking care of your whole self, early and often.

Your mouth is a window to your overall health. Healthy gums support a healthy heart, better blood sugar balance, and a stronger immune system.

This month, check two things off your list:

✔️ Book your dental cleaning
✔️ Schedule that mammogram

Packed lunches. After-school activities. Mornings that move way too fast. Sound familiar?

This time of year is also when cavities tend to sneak up on kids' teeth — but the good news is prevention doesn't require overhauling your whole routine. A few small, consistent habits go a long way.

We put together exactly what actually works. Read the full guide at TheSmilePlaceNY.com/blog.

Manual vs. electric toothbrush: here's what actually matters.

Research shows electric brushes — especially oscillating-rotating models — can reduce plaque and gum inflammation somewhat more than manual brushing over time. But soft bristles, two full minutes twice a day, and replacing your brush every 3 months matter more than which type you choose.

Our team walks through when each option makes the most sense, from toddlers to braces to limited dexterity. Full guide at TheSmilePlaceNY.com/blog.

Real talk: when's the last time anyone in your house actually cleaned their tongue?

It's the step that quietly gets skipped in almost every family we see, and it's an easy one to fix once you know why it matters (hint: it's not just about fresh breath).

We broke down exactly how to do it. Read the full guide at TheSmilePlaceNY.com/blog.

Holiday food and drink can be tougher on your teeth than you'd think.

Sugary sodas and cocktails feed bacteria and erode enamel. Sticky barbecue sauce clings to teeth longer than most foods. Acidic drinks soften enamel, so brushing right after can actually cause damage.

Our team put together a full breakdown of what to watch for this Labor Day weekend, plus simple steps to protect your smile without missing out on the fun.

Thumb sucking is developmentally normal in infancy, but prolonged or vigorous sucking past age 4 can lead to open bite, overbite, a narrowed palate, and even speech difficulties.

Most children stop on their own between ages 2 and 4. If the habit persists as permanent teeth begin to emerge, early intervention — from positive reinforcement to habit appliances — offers the simplest, most effective path to correction.
