Gentlemen, This One’s for You — This Week Is Men’s Health Week. Our residents deserve to feel their very best, so we’re spotlighting the incredible gentlemen of Brandermill Woods! Studies show that men who stay socially active, exercise regularly, and keep up with routine health checkups live longer, healthier, and happier lives. This week, we encourage the men who live here to: Schedule annual checkups, join a friend for a swim in our heated indoor pool, or make plans to get together at happy hour — mental health matters just as much as physical health. To every gentleman at Brandermill Woods — thank you for the stories, the laughs, the games, and the wisdom you bring to our community every single day.

“Eat the Rainbow — Your Brain and Heart Will Love You For It”
Strawberries and leafy greens are in season in May, so fill your plate. Other good choices include salmon, walnuts, and whole grains. Choose foods that are packed with antioxidants and omega-3s to help reduce inflammation, which is a key to reducing things like joint pain and cognitive decline. What’s your favorite healthy dish? Join our Dining Services Team for Lettuce Talk on May 26, an open forum where residents can share feedback, ask questions and discuss menu ideas. Your input helps improve the dining experience for everyone.

Friendship Is Medicine and It’s Freely Available at Brandermill Woods! Researchers at Harvard have found that a rich social life may actually slow the biological aging process. And a European study of thousands of older adults showed that regular social activity was one of the strongest protections against cognitive decline. What this means for residents at Brandermill Woods is that regular activities like the writers’ group, the book club, the reader’s theater, social trivia and yappy hour are all doing wonders for your health. If you’re looking forward to meeting new people, join us to welcome everyone at the New Resident Meet and Greet on May 5!

Pickleball is Where Your Serve Gets Better with Age! It’s a game where skill, strategy, and experience are better than raw power. With a smaller court size and slower-paced game play, pickleball is particularly easy for seniors to play. For residents who are looking to try pickleball, there are several excellent courts nearby. Convenient and close, Rockwood Park offers eight well-maintained pickleball courts. Another option is the Chesterfield Career and Technical Center, which features 12 outdoor pickleball courts that are free to play on. If you haven’t tried playing already, April is National Pickleball Month. Let’s go!
