Phyllis P. Haughey

Phyllis Patricia Haughey (Pascale) – August 12, 1934 – June 2, 2026

Our amazing mother Phyllis (Filomena) made the world around her better just by being in it. Born in New Haven, CT to a Polish-American mother who died when she was six, and an Italian-American father, Phyllis was raised among Italian-American immigrants. Proud of her heritage and excited for the promise of city life, Phyllis embraced post-war New Haven – social events with her musician father, Hamden High School prom queen, girls’ trips to NYC and a two-year program at Southern Connecticut State University. Entering the 1950’s full of optimism and hopes for the future, she met the love of her life (William “Bill” Haughey) while working as a secretary at Eastern Industries. They eloped and were married in Alabama, with Bill’s brother Larry and his wife Margie as witnesses. Shortly after, they received an exciting opportunity with Eastern and relocated to Southern California in the early 1960’s.

A few years later, they returned to New Haven and settled with their young family in the suburb of Northford, CT. The next chapter began with following the advice of a friend and purchasing a small printing shop in New Hampshire. After the move north, Phyllis settled into New Hampshire life, working and raising her three children William Jr. (Pete), Roger, and Victoria. Known to friends as an amazing cook, host and conversationalist with a keen eye for design, she was also very involved with local theatre.

Phyllis lived in Amherst and Mont Vernon from the early 1970’s until her passing but her heart was always in New Haven. Preceded in death by her husband William B. Haughey, and survived by her children Pete (Michele), Roger (Susan), and Victoria (Christian), and her grandchildren Blake, Jean-Baptiste, Eliot, William III, Hayden, Evelyn, Pascale and a life-size bust of Elvis. There will be an informal gathering to remember her beautiful spirit on June 14th, 2:00 at 3 Grand Hill Rd. Mont Vernon. She enjoyed contributing to Nationalparks.org and would also appreciate if everyone said a prayer for the future of America.
