Ever wonder why I ask about frequent ear infections during a speech evaluation?
Frequent ear infections can sometimes cause temporary hearing changes, meaning little ones may not hear speech as clearly or consistently. During the years when language is developing rapidly, that can make a difference.
Of course, not every late talker has a history of ear infections, and not every child with ear infections will have a speech delay or need ear tubes. But it's one of the many puzzle pieces I consider when evaluating a child's communication skills🧸🧩
