When a family experiences a su***de or other tragic loss, the support they receive in the days makes a lasting difference.

That's why we're partnering with the Green County Coroner's Office and Green County Healthy Community Coalition's Mental Health Matters committee to continue Boxes of Love, a program that provides comfort, support, and hope during life's most difficult moments.

Each Box of Love includes local grief resources, books on healing, a healing stone, a memorial seedling, a lap blanket and messages of hope, all intended to remind Green County families that they are not alone.

For Teri Ellefson, founder of Jacob's SWAG Foundation and Boxes of Love, ensuring the program continues means a great deal.

"The Boxes of Love were one of the most important things we did," said Ellefson. "I'm honored that SSM Health and the Green County Coroner's Office are continuing what we started and I'm proud and excited to see the program continue to grow."

Together, we're helping ensure families facing unimaginable grief know their community cares, support is available, and they do not have to navigate the journey alone. ❤️

A big thank you to Tiffany Crotty and everyone who supported her annual book drive! Thanks to their generosity, 120 Hope Bags will be shared with pediatric patients and children of families receiving care at SSM Health in Monroe. Each color-on tote is filled with books and a coloring book with crayons to provide comfort, creativity, and a bright spot when it’s needed most.

We're grateful for Tiffany's ongoing support and for the many community members whose generosity helped make this year's drive a success. 💙

💗Chris Schwartz is feeling more like herself again, thanks to Hope Blooms 💗

When Chris Schwartz learned her breast cancer had returned 18 years after first completing treatment, she faced many challenges, including the prospect of losing her hair during chemotherapy.

Looking for a wig that would help her look and feel like herself again, Chris turned to Hope Blooms, a free community-based cancer care resource center at the SSM Health campus in Janesville.

Hope Blooms provides wigs, hats, personal care items and supportive services to individuals undergoing cancer treatment, regardless of where they live or whether they receive care through SSM Health.

"There were a lot of wigs to choose from at Hope Blooms, and I was able to find something I really liked," she said. "My new wig has highlights, bangs and is a little sassy - it's nice to know that you can go out in public, feel like yourself, and not have to think about it.”

Chris encourages others facing cancer to not be shy, and explore the resources available through Hope Blooms.

"The volunteers are kind and the resource space has a lot to offer - it's a wonderful place,” she said.

Week two of Club Scrub brought students to our Rehab Services department for a hands-on look at rehabilitation careers and technology. Students challenged their balance with a simulator and obstacle course, learned how e-stim can help restore muscle function after injury, tested their reaction times on interactive touch screens, and explored grip and pinch strength activities used in patient care. It was a fun way to see how our rehab team helps patients regain strength and function!

The Medicare Advantage & Prescription Drug Plan Annual Enrollment Period (AEP) lasts until December 7. Now is the time to choose your Medicare coverage for 2027!

Question: If I join a Medicare Advantage plan, do I still need to pick a Medicare Part D Prescription Drug plan?

There are two main points to keep in mind. First, if you join a Medicare Advantage HMO or PPO, many plans include a Medicare Part D Prescription Drug plan as part of the coverage. The second point is that in most instances you must use the Prescription Drug plan that is part of the Medicare Advantage coverage; meaning you cannot join a Medicare Advantage health plan and then join another company’s Prescription Drug plan. It is important to verify that your prescription medications are covered by any Medicare Advantage plan you are considering.

Those enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan or a standalone Medicare Prescription Drug plan (PDP) may experience changes to their plan benefits and/or premium for 2027. Carefully review your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) letter sent early October by your Medicare insurance plan to verify all changes to your coverage for next year.

As part of our “Through My Eyes” program, Chelsea Hardacre, President, spent time last Friday shadowing our hospital’s materials management team.

Chelsea spent the morning learning how supplies and deliveries move throughout our hospital. From helping support the supply process of receiving, organizing, and delivering department requests to seeing firsthand how incoming deliveries are received, tracked, and routed, she was impressed by the teamwork, organization, and sense of urgency involved. It was especially inspiring to see the team’s dedication to ensuring critical items reach the right departments as quickly as possible.

When restocking nurse servers in the ICU, Sherri shared something that has stayed with Chelsea: “While I restock, I like to tidy up each bin. I like knowing that I’m making things as easy for the nurses as possible, so they have exactly what they need when they need it.”

That comment was a powerful reminder that outstanding patient care depends on the countless individuals whose contributions are often unseen but deeply important.
