Openings for Bridget... available NOW!

Bridget McHugh, MA, Intern

Bridget is passionate about working with adolescents, young adults, couples, and adult women. She believes that every person has the capacity to take control of their life and emotional experiences. Bridget helps clients move toward this goal by creating a safe, supportive, and judgment-free space where they can explore their thoughts, emotions, and challenges openly.

Bridget is gaining experience in a person-centered approach to therapy while integrating elements of Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) throughout the counseling process. She incorporates mindfulness interventions to help clients become more grounded and increase self-awareness. Bridget believes that the most important factor in a client’s success in therapy is the therapeutic relationship and leans on her sense of humor and curiosity to build and strengthen that relationship.

Central to Bridget’s therapeutic approach is the belief that what lies between a person's current self and their best self is the willingness to authentically experience their pain, anxieties, and desires. Her hope for clients is that they can identify and connect with their authentic selves while learning how and where they can live from that place in their daily lives. Through mindfulness and self-exploration, Bridget helps clients develop greater awareness, acceptance, and intentionality in the way they engage with themselves and the world around them.

Engaging with an intern in counseling allows clients to experience a fresh mind in the counseling space at a lower rate than traditional therapy. Interns receive individualized attention from supervisors who help strengthen their therapeutic skills and provide clarification and support throughout their introduction to therapy.

Behind even the brightest smiles, people often carry heavy, unseen burdens.

These personal battles can take many forms:

Mental Health: Quiet struggles with anxiety, depression, panic attacks, or trauma.

Life Transitions: Hidden grief, caregiving responsibilities, financial stress, or difficult relationship conversations.

Health Challenges: Chronic pain, poor sleep, or existential stress that doesn't show on the surface.

Because a person's struggles are often invisible, it becomes easy to judge others for their actions or moods. Practicing daily empathy helps make people feel seen, valued, and less isolated. Taking a moment to extend a random act of kindness can create a ripple effect, providing someone with the courage and support they need to get through the day.

International Joke Day
is a holiday celebrated every year on July 1st. Created in 1994 by comedian Wayne Reinagel, the day encourages people to share humor, tell funny stories, and spread laughter to boost mental and physical health.

Fun Facts About Humor

• Laughter is healthy: Laughing for one minute can raise your heart rate as much as ten minutes on a rowing machine. It also helps lower stress.

•Long history: The oldest known joke dates back to 1900 B.C. in ancient Sumeria.

• Not April Fools: Unlike April Fools' Day, which is about pranks, this day is entirely about sharing verbal jokes and good vibes.
