The numbers tell an important story. đź’—

About 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will develop breast cancer during their lifetime, and more than 321,000 women are expected to be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer in 2026.

But the numbers also show progress and hope.

When invasive breast cancer is found while still localized to the breast, the 5-year relative survival rate is greater than 99%. And today, more than 4 million breast cancer survivors are living in the United States.

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let these numbers remind you to know your risk, stay informed, and keep up with the screening plan recommended for you.

However, there's no one-size-fits-all screening schedule. Your personal and family history, genetic risk, and other factors may mean you should start earlier or follow a different screening plan.

Dr. Sharla Gayle Patterson encourages every woman to have a conversation about her individual risk and create a screening plan that's right for her.

Breast cancer awareness starts with knowing the facts. đź’—

From understanding your personal risk to staying current with recommended screenings, knowledge can help you make informed decisions about your breast health.

A few important reminders:

🌸 Breast cancer risk increases with age, and most breast cancers are found in women age 55 or older.

🌸 Most people diagnosed with breast cancer do not have a close blood relative with the disease.

🌸 Screening can help find breast cancer before symptoms appear.

🌸 The earlier breast cancer is found, the better the chances for successful treatment.

Your breast health is personal. Talk with your healthcare provider about your individual risk factors and the screening schedule that's right for you.

Getting called back after a mammogram can feel concerning—but a callback does not automatically mean breast cancer. 💗

Sometimes, your care team simply needs a clearer or more detailed look at something seen on your mammogram. Depending on the findings, they may recommend additional mammogram images, an ultrasound, or further testing.

The most important thing is to complete your recommended follow-up and ask questions about anything you don't understand.
