June is Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month, and we're honored to welcome Angelia Pridgen with the Eastern Carolina Council on Aging for an informative and compassionate discussion on Alzheimer's disease, memory changes, caregiver support, and available community resources.

Whether you're caring for a loved one, supporting a friend, or simply interested in learning more about brain health and aging, we invite you to join us.

Step inside a crowded, smoke-filled speakeasy in 1926, where the energy is electric and every night feels like a rebellion against the law. Women shed heavy corsets for loose, dropped-waist knee-length dresses covered in shimmering beads and sequins. Men look sharp in structured, pinstriped jazz suits, slicked-back hair, and tilted fedoras or flat ivy caps. Long strands of pearls swing wildly through the air with every spin and turn on the dance floor. Brass instruments blare over the rhythmic, infectious thumping of a live jazz band on stage. Crowds sweat out the energetic Charleston, the Lindy Hop, and the wild Black Bottom dance steps. Syncopated rhythms break all classical rules, matching the fast, unpredictable pace of modern city life. Gin masked with sweet honey and lemon juice to hide the rough taste of illegal bathtub spirits flow behind small wooden slot in a door, where only a secret password would gain you entry.

This was the Roaring Twenties and tonight The Viridian Independent Living residents and staff stepped back in time to reenact this lively era! We extend our deepest gratitude to our staff and residents, for everyone's help, participation and excitement and we give special thanks to Halo Salon-New Bern for making our ladies hair so beautiful, Chris Yontz for his smooth vocals and talented fingers on the keyboard and trumpet, and to our kitchen for the amazing meal they prepared.
