WE’RE HIRING! 🚨 And yes, having a slightly unhinged sense of humor is actually a job qualification.

Grieve Leave is looking for our very first Social Media Manager, and we’re hoping to find someone who understands that grief can be heartbreaking, hilarious, deeply uncomfortable, and sometimes all of the above.

Are you creative? Funny? Chronically online? Exceptionally organized? Have you ever made a joke about something terrible and thought, “Okay, maybe that one was just for me”?

We might be your people.

We’re looking for someone who can turn big feelings into scroll-stopping content, make millions of people feel a little less alone, and help us change the way the world talks about grief. Someone who knows when to be serious, when to be funny, and when to tell someone that “everything happens for a reason” is a terrible thing to say.

THE DETAILS:
📍 Full-time, hybrid | Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC
💰 Salary: $65,000–$85,000
💻 Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, newsletters, and all the other places people spend way too much time online.
🤝 Work directly with our Founder, Founding Executive Director, and Brand Director.

We’re a growing nonprofit with big ambitions, a lot of feelings, and absolutely no interest in making grief content that sounds like it was written on a sympathy card.

Sound like your dream job? We want to meet you.

Apply at grieveleave.com/careers or send your resume, work samples, and an introduction to [email protected].

And if you’re reading this thinking, “Oh my god, I know EXACTLY who should do this,” please send it to them.

Help us find our person. 💙💛

Two Sad Hours. One month. Lots of feelings!

We’re bringing you TWO opportunities to get out of the house, meet some cool people, and talk about the stuff we’re usually expected to keep to ourselves.

🧘 November 7: HEAT IT UP, CRY IT OUT
Sad Hour Yoga at Threehouse Studios in Durham. Come stretch your body, make some space for your feelings, and maybe cry in downward dog. We won’t judge.

💎 November 16: WHO ARE YOU WEARING?
A Sad Hour with Hamilton Hill Jewelry at Brightleaf Square in Durham. We’re talking about the people, memories, and stories we carry with us through the things we wear.

Never been to a Sad Hour? Think community gathering, not group therapy. No pressure to share. No need to be actively grieving a death. And you definitely don’t have to be sad to show up.

Because grief comes in all shapes and sizes, and finding people who get it shouldn’t be so hard.

🎟️ Two events. Two very different vibes. Same Grieve Leave energy.

If politics has ever changed how you see someone you love, you already know political grief is real.

The future you thought we’d have. The rights you thought were secure. The people you thought shared your values. The version of your community, your country, or your democracy you hoped you’d get to see.

Yep. That’s grief, too.

And if you’ve been doomscrolling, arguing with relatives, or wondering how on earth we’re supposed to function like normal human beings while so much feels at stake, you’re certainly not alone.

At Grieve Leave, we talk a lot about how grief isn’t just about death. It’s about losing (or fearing the loss of) the people, places, possibilities, and futures that matter to us.

And sometimes, the best thing you can do with that grief is something about it.

Like VOTING. (No we’re not known for subtlety) 🗳️

This Tuesday, November 3, elections are happening in communities across the country. And while national politics might get the headlines, the decisions made closest to home can have an enormous impact on our everyday lives.

So research your ballot. Find your polling place. Text your friends. Show up for your community.

You don’t have to feel hopeful about everything to do something that matters.

And please, for the love of all things good, don’t skip the school board races.

Save this post, send it to your group chat, and tell us: What’s bringing up political grief for you this election season? 💗

November is Worldwide Bereaved Siblings Month, and we’re shining a light on a kind of grief that doesn’t get nearly enough attention.

When a child dies, people understandably rally around the grieving parents. But what about the siblings?

The ones who lost a brother or sister. The ones who are expected to be strong for their parents while navigating their own heartbreak. The ones who may have lost someone they expected to grow old alongside.

Sibling grief is so often overlooked that grieving siblings are sometimes called the “forgotten mourners.” And we think it’s about time we changed that.

In this week’s Grieve Leave Community Blog, “The Rude Awakening,” Jessica Connelly (Jess from Liz & Jess) shares what happened after her 29-year-old baby brother, Sean, died suddenly in 2019.

She writes about supporting her grieving parents, feeling left behind as the rest of the world continued with life, and even receiving eye rolls when she mentioned Sean’s name.

Jessica also shares her search for answers, the friendships that changed, and how she eventually began making room for joy alongside her grief.

Because you can laugh again and still miss your sibling terribly. You can find happiness and still be furious that someone you love is dead. And you can say their name as many times as you want.

We’re grateful to Jessica for sharing Sean’s story and helping us make more room for conversations about sibling grief.

Read her full story at grieveleave.com/blog. 💙

And if you’re grieving a sibling, we’d love to hear about them. What’s something you wish more people understood about losing a brother or sister?

LOS ANGELES, WE’RE COMING TO GET SAD WITH YOU💖📚🍹

A book fair for a whole bunch of people who actually WANT to talk about grief? Obviously, we had to be there.

Grieve Leave is headed to LA on November 13 for the Grieftastic Book Fair the day after End Well’s annual event (End Well), and we’re bringing a little Sad Hour™ magic with us!

Think your middle school Scholastic Book Fair, but with 30+ grief authors, grown-up beverages, and considerably more emotional baggage.

Here’s what we’re up to:

🍹 ALL-DAY SAD HOUR: We’re hosting a cocktail hangout throughout the fair, complete with drinks, conversation starters, and opportunities to meet people who won’t get weird when you bring up your dead dad, your divorce, or whatever else you’re grieving. (Or maybe they will get weird, but in a fun way.)

🎤 MEET OUR FOUNDING EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR: Tabitha Blackwell (Tabitha C. Blackwell) will be there to talk about Grieve Leave’s next chapter as we become an independent nonprofit, what we’re building, and how YOU can help bring programs like Sad Hours to your own communities.

🎙️ AND OUR FOUNDER IS TAKING THE STAGE: Rebecca Feinglos (Rebecca Feinglos) will moderate “Beyond Goodbye: How We Care and Carry On,” featuring Shelby Forsythia Shelby Forsythia | Grief Support Coach, 3x Author, Podcaster, Oona Metz Oona Metz, LICSW, Stephanie Sarazin Stephanie Sarazin, and Natasha Smith NATASHA SMITH | Grief Advocate. We’re talking about what it actually looks like to live, love, and care for ourselves and each other after loss.

And in between? BOOKS. SO MANY BOOKS. 📚 Plus author signings, panels, and a whole lot of people who understand that grief deserves more than awkward silence.

Who knew that apparently there are other people out there who think a great Friday involves books, cocktails, and talking about the hardest parts of being human. OUR PEOPLE.

Hello we are here to judge you for your candy preferences. 🎃🍬

Are you a Reese’s peanut butter cup gal who needs a couch and 12 hours of Netflix? An M&M guy who is one minor inconvenience away from a breakdown but still answering emails? Or a gummy vampire teeth person who’s already figured out how to turn their trauma into a tight five-minute comedy set?

We have opinions on your candy choices.

Swipe to find out what your favorite Halloween candy says about your grieving style. Then tell us which one you are in the comments. 👇

And before anyone asks, yes this is a scientifically validated grief assessment. We’re a grief organization making very real judgments about candy. Happy Halloween. 🧡

Tonight, our pets who have died get invited back, too. 🐾🧡

October 27 is a day many people observe as part of Día de los Mu***os to remember and welcome back their beloved pets. So if you’re celebrating tonight, we hope you’ve made some room for your four-legged (or two-legged, or no-legged) family members. Maybe put out their favorite treats. Their favorite toy. That photo where they look absolutely ridiculous.

Because who says death means someone stops being part of the family?

As Día de los Mu***os approaches, we’re taking a look at this beautiful Mexican tradition and the ways it makes room for grief in everyday life. With food, music, marigolds, storytelling, and yes, even a little tequila.

You can miss someone terribly AND throw a party in their honor. You can cry AND laugh about the ridiculous things they used to do. You can remember your dead people without pretending they belong only in the past.

And you can absolutely save them a seat at the table.

Feliz Día de los Mu***os! 💀🌼

Are you celebrating this year? Tell us who you’re welcoming back (pets included!) and what you’re putting on your ofrenda. 🧡
