A few days ago my six-year-old granddaughter looked up at me and asked, "Savta, when will I start making friends?" She had just left a place where she had her friends, and she was feeling the ache of starting over. That question is the very same one so many of us are quietly asking in our sixties.
It opens a new four-part mini-series on the podcast about making friends in midlife, all from one conversation with happiness coach Ricki Radosh. Part one asks the most basic question of all: do you really have the friends you think you do?
Ricki spent decades certain she had none. Then she pulled out the scrapbooks she had kept since she was twelve and found page after page of proof that she had been surrounded by people all along. As she said, "You walk around with one story in your head, and if that's not the story you want, change the story."
Here is your question for the week: what is the story you have been telling yourself about friendships, and is it the one you want to keep?
