Why does holding a calm adult settle a crying baby so fast? Take a look at my short on the science of co-regulation and the mirror networks quietly running the show.

Newborns cannot regulate on their own yet. Their brains scan for a nearby nervous system and borrow the state they find.

Modern neuroscience has reshaped how we understand parenting, stress, and even trauma. Your calm is not just comfort, it is physiology at work.

Upstream prevention means we have to learn all we possibly can about new threats to our kids. Excited to be in Orlando for !!

What if you set the emotional tone of your home instead of catching it from everyone else? Take another look at my short on being the thermostat, not the thermometer, when your kid walks in the door dysregulated.

Matching your kid's distress with your own does not help either of you. Pausing, breathing, and staying steady gives them a nervous system to borrow.

You set the tone, and your calm becomes theirs. Small emotional skills at home ripple into every public moment too.

Ever watched a child melt down in public and wondered what to do? Take another look at episode one of Out Here With Kids, where I share a screaming baby, a frantic mom, and what happened at 30,000 feet.

One calm nervous system nearby can shift the whole moment. I unpack why being an emotional thermostat, not a thermometer, changes everything for your kids and for you.

You'll get real story, approachable brain science, and moves you can use at the grocery store or the pickup line. Small gestures from bystanders turn stressful moments into connection.

The kid kicking your seat on the plane isn't trying to ruin your day.

He's five. His ears hurt. Everything is loud and new and overwhelming.

A kind nod to his exhausted mom might do more than a death stare ever could.

We all share these spaces. Show up accordingly. ✈️

Often times parents just cross their fingers and hope. Hope that their child isn’t abused or exploited or trafficked. The field has done a good job raising awareness about these issues, but to be honest, unless we also give parents TOOLS and CONFIDENCE, all we’ve done is increase caregivers’ anxiety.

At Support Over Silence, we dig deep into the science - the science of prevention, the science of communication, the science of community building and the science of risk factors. By leaning hard into the evidence, and building solutions with community experts, we’re bringing you a new playbook for parenting.

You know that moment when a parent raises their voice and then immediately regrets it? Most people notice that part. Fewer people stay for what happens next.

The apology matters. The repair matters more than the mistake. When a parent chooses to own it in public, they’re doing something most people avoid. That’s the moment that deserves support.

Recognize repair when you see it, and support it.

You know that moment when a child is taking longer than necessary to do something simple? Ordering, paying, figuring it out while everyone waits.

It feels inefficient. It feels uncomfortable. But it’s intentional.

That parent is stepping back so their child can learn. Support in that moment means resisting the urge to rush it along.

Learn how to support growth instead of speed in public moments.
