Thank you to the Riverwood community for inviting us out to their flood-ravaged neighborhood this afternoon. We were delighted to bring out our mobile unit to provide tetanus shots, copies of birth certificates, and advice on managing flooded wells.

Our mosquito control technicians are out treating bodies of water throughout Hamilton County as we expect an increase in mosquito activity following recent flooding.

Residents can help by emptying containers of standing water around their homes and using mosquito repellent when spending time outdoors.

Recent flooding has left behind pockets of standing water, which means we’re expecting to see an increase in mosquito activity across Hamilton County.

Many will be nuisance mosquitoes that do not carry West Nile virus, but residents should still take precautions to prevent bites. Use insect repellent, remove standing water around your home, and wear long sleeves and pants when possible.

The Hamilton County Health Department joined community partners tonight at Carmel's Flood Recovery Open House to provide resources for residents impacted by recent flooding.

Our team assisted with vital record replacements and shared information on private well safety and environmental cleanup, while the Indiana Department of Health provided tetanus vaccinations. We also teamed up with Hamilton County Emergency Management to share additional flood recovery resources.

Mold can pose serious health risks. Wear proper protective equipment, including an N95 mask, gloves and eye protection, and avoid moldy areas if you have breathing problems or a weakened immune system.

Due to recent flooding, the Hamilton County Health Department is pausing recreational water sampling for August while our team focuses on private wells that may have been impacted by floodwater.

Recreational water testing will resume when conditions are safe. Residents who need assistance with private well testing can contact the Health Department at 317-776-8500.

The Hamilton County Health Department and Indiana Department of Health will be at the City of Carmel’s Flood Recovery Open House on Tuesday, August 25, to provide resources for residents impacted by recent flooding.

Residents can receive tetanus vaccinations, assistance with birth certificate replacements, and information on environmental cleanup and private well water safety.
