Thanks for having me, Hoover Youth XC 🏃🏼♀️🏃🏾♂️
Grateful to go back to my stomping grounds and have an opportunity to give back. This district provided an awful lot to me growing up, and it’s clear there continues to be some really wonderful people here investing the youth.
I had a lot of the components of grit growing up— I knew how to work hard, push through discomfort, and keep going when things got difficult. What I was missing was the language and emotional intelligence to understand what I was experiencing and use those emotions wisely to achieve my goals.
That’s what makes it so cool to see the Hoover Cross Country program being intentional about giving athletes some of those tools a little earlier— so they don’t just learn how to push through, but also how to understand themselves, navigate challenges, and take care of themselves (and their teammates) along the way.
Also, I LOVED chatting with the parents during this clinic to troubleshoot and provide some new ideas to try on. Hearing their perspective makes me a better counselor, speaker and coach.
Go Vikes!
