Hot take: arguing about whose fault it is doesn't get a single instrument any cleaner.

Robin Evans, BSN, RN, RNFA, CRCST, CHL, has seen the same argument play out in hospital after hospital. Sterile Processing says the OR isn't doing point-of-use care. The OR says cleaning instruments is Sterile Processing's job. Neither side is entirely wrong, and neither side is entirely right.

Across the country, parents are getting kids back into the swing of a new school year. Back to school means back to routine, and perioperative departments should be feeling the same reset.

The busiest surgical months are approaching, largely because patients schedule procedures once they meet their annual deductible. July is typically the slowest. That gap is why late summer matters: it is the window to catch problems before they turn into fall bottlenecks.

August is National ASC Month, and the numbers explain why.
