Most perioperative consulting firms specialize in one side of the perioperative equation: sterile processing or the operating room.

Surgical Solutions consultants work both. The same team that walks the floor of a sterile processing department can sit in an OR leadership meeting later that day, because sterile processing and OR operations rarely break down in isolation. A late first case often traces back to instrument readiness. A compliance finding often traces back to a workflow gap that began elsewhere entirely.

With a combined 70-plus years of perioperative experience, Robin Evans, BSN, RN, RNFA, CRCST, CHL, and Elizabeth "Betty" Casey, MSN, RN, CNOR, CRCST, CHL, bring a view of the entire ecosystem, not just one corner of it.

No project is too small or too large. Engagements run short-term or long-term, built around what a facility's team needs rather than a predetermined scope. The focus stays the same regardless of size or timeline: better outcomes for the patient on the table.

Surgical Solutions' new consulting services are built around that full picture, not a single lens.

Hot take: arguing about whose fault it is doesn't get a single instrument any cleaner.

Robin Evans, BSN, RN, RNFA, CRCST, CHL, has seen the same argument play out in hospital after hospital. Sterile Processing says the OR isn't doing point-of-use care. The OR says cleaning instruments is Sterile Processing's job. Neither side is entirely wrong, and neither side is entirely right.

Her take: the real question isn't who's at fault. It's why the process keeps failing and what a hospital plans to do about it.

Across the country, parents are getting kids back into the swing of a new school year. Back to school means back to routine, and perioperative departments should be feeling the same reset.

The busiest surgical months are approaching, largely because patients schedule procedures once they meet their annual deductible. July is typically the slowest. That gap is why late summer matters: it is the window to catch problems before they turn into fall bottlenecks.

A parent would not send a child back to school without the right supplies. An OR should not head into its busiest season without the right equipment, instruments, and staffing in place either.

Here are five areas worth a close look before volume climbs are the focus of this week's blog. Check it out!

Thank you to Healthcare Business Review for covering the Surgical Solutions' announcement of new Consulting Services for hospitals and ASCs.

This gives hospital and ASC leaders vendor-neutral, project-based expertise for a specific initiative such as technology selection, survey prep, and OR leadership development, without the commitment of a long-term onsite engagement.

Every engagement starts with an onsite assessment and ends with a prioritized roadmap ranked by urgency and impact, not another report to sit on a shelf.

When a sister hospital closed, a 390-bed independent hospital in the Midwest had to absorb the volume...and the equipment.

Trays piled up. Frustrated staff left. Soon, there were 400+ trays down every morning.

Then Surgical Solutions stepped in, reducing the backlog and reconciling instruments before rebuilding processes from the ground up.

The results:
πŸ“‰ 67% drop in average trays down
πŸ” 157 missing instruments found and corrected
βœ… 295 trays audited and passed

Surgical Solutions launched new Consulting Services for hospitals and ASCs this week.

A late first case, a compliance finding, or a labor gap in sterile processing does not wait for a quarterly planning cycle. Consulting gives hospital and ASC leaders a way to get expert, vendor-neutral guidance on a specific problem, without the timeline or commitment of a full onsite engagement.

"Hospitals and ASCs rarely have the luxury of a slow fix," said Elizabeth "Betty" Casey, MSN, RN, CNOR, CRCST, CHL, Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations at Surgical Solutions. "This puts experienced hands on the floor quickly, with a clear plan the department can act on right away, and our support the entire time."

Surgical Solutions has launched new Consulting Services for hospitals and ASCs.

The service gives leaders vendor-neutral expertise for a defined project, without the commitment of a full onsite engagement. From selecting new technology to preparing for a survey, the consulting team steps in to solve a specific problem and hand off a prioritized roadmap, not a report that sits on a shelf.

"Every hospital we work with is under pressure to do more with less, and that pressure does not always come with the runway for a long engagement," said Kirk Leonardelli, CEO of Surgical Solutions.

August is National ASC Month, and the numbers explain why.

Ambulatory Surgery Centers saved Medicare $27.9 billion from 2019 to 2024. Beneficiaries saved $6.9 billion directly (KNG Health Consulting). Savings like that only hold up when cases run on schedule and instruments are ready when they are needed.

That reliability is not automatic. It depends on staffing continuity, sterile processing keeping pace with volume, and coordination preventing delays before they start. This is where Surgical Solutions focuses every day.

To every ASC team keeping outpatient care efficient this month and every month, happy National ASC Month.
