September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month.
As a therapist, I hear the same fear from clients and families all the time: "If I bring it up, I'll make it worse." The research says otherwise. Asking someone directly β "Are you thinking about su***de?" β doesn't plant the idea. It opens a door. It tells them they don't have to carry it alone.
This month I'll be sharing what the warning signs actually look like, how to have that conversation, and what support exists for Veterans, LGBTQIA+ folks, neurodivergent adults, and older adults β the communities I work with every day.
September is also National Recovery Month, and the two are deeply connected. Healing is possible. Help is real.
If you or someone you love is struggling, call or text 988 (Su***de & Crisis Lifeline), available 24/7. Veterans: dial 988, then press 1.
