CORE may be the most important statewide health program you maybe haven't heard of. Short for Coordinated Opioid Response, the CORE Network brings together professionals from so many disciplines — clinical, behavioral health, law enforcement and emergency response, to name but a few — with one goal: Save lives.

CORE looks to take away the stigma that too often comes with opioid recovery and to get patients the help they need. It's a combination of medicine-assisted treatment and therapy — and it works.

And on Tuesday several dozen Santa Rosa partners gathered at the UF IFAS Extension Office to share local strategies and offer collaborative solutions. Our Community Health Northwest Florida CORE team was there, with standout talks from Dr. Kenneth Scheppke, Chief Medical Officer for the Florida Department of Health (DOH), and Dr. Mark Stavros of the FSU College of Medicine. Our own Kesha Tran took part in a panel discussion about local CORE efforts.

We had a fantastic time lifting up the achievements by 2WINS. Generational change doesn't come easy, and what we saw last night was the culmination of so much hard work of so many partners, touching so many lives. Truly a reason to celebrate!

This is the MOC — our Mobile Optometry Clinic. Or, rather, it will be once it's fully tricked out. This is what a mobile unit looks like when it's brand-spanking-new from the factory, complete with that new-MOC smell.

Once the equipment is installed and the wrap takes it from a blank canvas to a rolling ambassador for Community Health Northwest Florida? That's when the real work starts as Dr. Sunni Martin and staff take their skills to Escambia County Public Schools and help make sure our children have the best vision — and the best opportunity to learn — possible.

And one more extremely important point: This was all made possible thanks to a $1.5 million grant from the Escambia Children's Trust.

We can't wait to get the MOC out to the schools.

It was a privilege to be with ReadyKids FL and so many other partners this morning, all of whom recognize just how important it is for a child to read. That's the basic building block for setting a child up for success throughout their life, and that in turn makes for a healthier and more prosperous community. We're proud to play our part in it.

Babies are complicated. But on August 19 we're proud to host Cradle Confident at our Jackson Street location for a day's worth of classes and education to help make the transition to parenthood just a little bit easier.

Always love having our friends from Escambia County Healthy Start Coalition at our Jackson Street office. They go above and beyond helping make sure new parents have what they need to keep baby and parents healthy, safe and thriving.

Between the heat and the rain Thursday (and the swamp the two created), the need for the Pallet shelters at the New Horizons village — a joint venture between REAP / ReEntry Alliance Pensacola and the City of Pensacola - Government — couldn't be more clear. More than a dozen temporary homes at the West Blount Street location, offering a safe, climate-controlled shelter that also meets Florida building codes.

We talk a lot about how it takes a village to provide care — this one's a literal village. And we couldn't be more proud of our nonprofit partners and the whole Continuum of Care for making this happen.
