Meet Julia Kania, APRN β€” one of our Pediatric Nurse Practitioners and a familiar face at our C.A. Weis Elementary School clinic!

Julia joined the Community Health Northwest Florida team in August 2018, bringing experience from the University of South Alabama PICU and the Pediatric Department at Mobile County Health Department. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Alabama and her Master's from the University of South Alabama, and is a member of the National Association of Pediatric Nurse Practitioners.

At C.A. Weis, Julia works alongside our Health Ambassadors β€” a group of third- through fifth-graders learning the basics of primary healthcare, from taking vitals and blood pressure to answering the phone and performing CPR. It's the kind of hands-on, community-rooted care that makes the Healthy Schools initiative so powerful. (And also thanks in no small part to our friends at United Way of West Florida and Children's Home Society of Florida.)

Julia is passionate about helping the community, serving patients, building relationships with families, and watching kids grow. Outside of work, she loves time with her husband, Dan, and their two children, trips to the beach, and cheering on Alabama football. 🐘

Opioid deaths around Florida have significantly dropped, and Escambia County, labeled the worst district for fentanyl deaths, also dropped. See link below ⬇️

The CORE program saves lives. Full stop. We've shown that. Our partners at Lakeview Center and Escambia County EMS and Emergency Communications have shown that.

The Coordinated Opioid Recovery pairs medication-assisted treatment wit wraparound supports to sustain long-term recovery. It's not just prescription medicine. It's also case management. Behavioral health therapy. Basic primary care. The CORE program currently has about 452 patients in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties alone. It has a 91 % retention rate. It is, by every measure, a success.

CORE needs more funding. Not less.
