Playtime isn’t extra. It’s essential 🫧

Try this: blow some bubbles, then pause and wait. When your little one reaches, points, babbles or says “more,” respond and keep the game going.

That back-and-forth is called Take Turns, one of the 3Ts, and it’s one of the best ways to build your child’s language and brain. No special toys needed, just you!

Little hands touch, share, and explore everything, so handwashing is one of the easiest ways to keep young children healthy.

Make it fun: sing a song, play a game, or try a “bubble challenge.” When it feels like play, kids are more likely to stick with it.

World Mental Health Day is a reminder that well-being starts early.
For young children, mental health looks like feeling safe, heard, and supported. It shows up in how they handle big feelings, connect with others, and build confidence over time.

For parents, it means knowing it’s okay to ask questions and reach out when something feels off. You don’t have to figure it out alone.

At Southwest Human Development, we support Arizona families through child development and mental health services, including counseling, parenting programs, and our free Birth to Five Helpline. Bilingual early childhood specialists are available to answer questions about sleep, behavior, development, and more.

MAKERS of Change is back! 🛠️

At Southwest Human Development, we believe every child deserves the chance to explore, move and grow. Through our MAKERS of Change Assistive Technology Challenge, high school STEM students from across Arizona put that belief into action by designing a real-world solution for one very special child.

This year's child is Ellie! She's 2 years old, she loves music and people, and she's always ready to dance to "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star." Student teams are building a device to help Ellie take her first steps toward walking and independence.

Whether you've cheered on MAKERS before or you're just meeting these young innovators, we invite you to follow along as they turn creativity and compassion into change for Ellie and her family.

Stay tuned for details on a live panel where our MAKERS students will share what they built, why they built it, and how they worked through their ideas.
