Watching our 8 year old use the hatchet he bought with his own money, brings me so much joy. He is truly happy cultivating the land, right along with these animals. What a gift it is to watch our children use their God given talents.

This farm puts out the most beautiful and heartfelt content. This is the hardest part of farming. Not knowing, questioning, and feeling like a failure. Be kind to everyone, farmers included, you never know what someone is dealing with behind the scenes.

This summer, I’ve been a little quiet here. If I’m being honest, it hasn’t quite felt like summer.

The garden went in late. Seeds didn’t germinate the way I hoped, and the weeds seemed to take over faster than I could keep up. Instead of running to the garden, there were many days I avoided it altogether.

At the same time, life was asking for something different from me.

We finished our Airbnb in May, which felt like such a blessing, and we’ve been grateful to welcome a few wonderful guests. But most of my time was spent with family. My mom was caring full-time for my 99-year-old grandma, and many nights I stepped in to help, getting her settled into bed so my mom could rest. Then, in the middle of it all, my mom had a full knee replacement, and my role shifted again to helping care for both of them.

We were tired, and our priorities had to change.
Last week, my grandma went to be with Jesus. She passed peacefully after a life well lived, and I carry no regrets.

When I look at the garden now, part of me sees what didn’t happen. But a bigger part of me sees the choices that were made—and knows they were the right ones. There will always be another growing season. There isn’t always more time with the people we love.

That’s both the challenge and the gift of this life and this business. The work waits for no one—but sometimes, we choose what matters most.

I haven’t been at the Exchange this month, but I plan to return at the beginning of August.

Thank you for supporting us in every season. There are still flowers coming—they just look a little different this year.

And yesterday, it rained just enough to make pulling weeds a little easier. I’d like to think that was my grandma.

May her legacy live on in me, and in this farm.

Who knew that so many people would be interested in sugar waxing. Here is a video demonstration. I did not show me actually making the wax here because I don't need a new batch right now, but it will make a video of that next time I make it!!

Mox 1/4 cup water, 1/4 cup lemon juice, 1 cup sugar. Boil until it is a light amber color on low to medium heat (maybe 10 min). Stirring as you go. Test by dropping a small amount into a bowl of ice water. If you can roll it in your fingers and it pulls apart, it is done. Do NOT over cook and do NOT put on your skin until cooled. Better to let it cool and reheat than to apply and get burned. Apply against the grain of your skin and pull off in a flicking motion. Continue to make a ball and add more wax as needed to keep the right temperature.

So, if you know me, you know that I hate to shave. Like, don't come over here in the summer and look at my legs. They are sweaty, dirty, and likely unshaven. In my younger years, before kids stole all my money, I used to get sugar waxing done. I LOVED it. I tried to do it myself many years ago and failed. I never tried again.

Tonight, I made the three simple ingredient sugar wax and NAILED it. Sugar waxing is definitely an art. As it turns out, I have enough technique for it to work. I will 100% be doing it again. It is so much less painful than hard wax. Bonus, you can make it once and use it for 3-4 times depending on how much wax you use per setting.
