This is brilliant.

This isn’t just a shirt.

It’s a statement that communication belongs everywhere!

For generations, the expectation has been that non-speaking people should adapt to a world that wasn’t built with them in mind. Learn our systems. Wait until someone finds your device. Hope people are patient enough to understand.

What if, for once, we adapted to them?

The keyboard on the sleeve is simple, but its meaning is powerful. It gives someone a place to point, spell, answer questions, share a thought, crack a joke, or simply say, “I’m okay.”

It turns a sleeve into a bridge.

For Hunter, it means he can communicate in places where carrying or using his AAC device isn’t always practical, like at the beach, in a swimming pool, on a hike, at an amusement park, on a ski hill, during sports, or anywhere technology can’t easily go.

But this hoodie isn’t only for non-speaking autistic people.

Imagine a nurse helping a patient communicate.

A paramedic asking important questions in an emergency.

A doctor in an exam room.

A teacher in a classroom.

A speech-language pathologist during therapy.

An occupational therapist or physiotherapist.

A police officer helping someone in crisis.

A firefighter during an evacuation.

A lifeguard checking if someone needs help.

A camp counsellor.

A respite worker.

A support worker.

A grandparent.

A sibling.

A friend.

Or even a complete stranger who simply wants to connect with someone who communicates differently.

Communication should never depend on whether the “right” device is nearby.

This is about inclusion you can wear. It’s about meeting people where they are. It’s about replacing assumptions with opportunity. It’s about creating a world where non-speaking people don’t always have to do the adapting.

Sometimes, the smallest changes create the biggest conversations.

And one of my favourite parts?

Hunter and I can have conversations almost anywhere by simply pointing to our sleeves. To everyone else, it just looks like we’re touching our hoodies. But in those moments, he’s telling me what he wants, what he’s thinking, or what made him smile. It’s a quiet little language we can carry with us everywhere.

That feeling, that freedom, is something I hope thousands of other families get to experience too.

This is a podcast that one of my warrior moms is co-hosting; this particular episode is on what it is for moms raising children with neurodivergence. It is real, raw, emotional and a topic that is often not discussed in conversation. I feel this is incredibly important for therapists (and moms) to take a listen. Even though I have worked with this family (and many) over the years, we only see a portion of what they're going through. This helps us to have a deeper understanding of all the emotions, guilt, fear, love and do whatever it takes mindset so that we as therapists can be a better support system.
