Your Legislative and Advocacy Co-Chairs have been hard at work! In the last month, we've been preparing for the 2026-2027 Legislative Session, hosted the first Legislative Advocacy Day of the session, put together suggested language for modernizing our Oregon Practice Act, participated in meetings with the Care First Coalition, and continued to collaborate with our allied health colleagues on aligned interests.

We can always use more volunteers! Please join us and donate a couple of hours of your time by emailing [email protected]

Each year at our annual conference, OTAO recognizes Occupational Therapy Practitioners and organizations that have made outstanding contributions to the field. Nominations are now open until September 19 for 2026 awards. Please nominate an OTP who has done amazing things for clients and our profession!

Our student scholarship applications are open now! The deadline to apply is 9/26/26 at midnight!

Scholarship funding is made possible through the generosity of OT practitioners across Oregon, raised through dedicated fundraising activities at last year's OTAO Annual Conference. This year, thanks to that generosity, OTAO is happy to award five scholarships of $1,300 each to deserving OT and OTA students.

On September 9, 2026, a group of OTPs represented YOU and met with Legislators in Salem to discuss and seek support for proposed changes to modernize our Practice Act, as well as the administrative and statutory Reform proposals that OTAO expects to support in the 2027 legislative year. Thank you to Senators Dick Anderson, Kate Lieber, and Deb Patterson; and to Representatives Andrea Valderrama, Darcey Edwards, Hai Pham, Emily McIntire, Lesly Muñoz, Lisa Fragala, Zach Hudson, Kevin L. Mannix, and April Dobson for meeting with us today!

Join OTAO in supporting the Parkinson's resources of Oregon (PRO) on their Sole Support Walk on September 12th.

We are looking for volunteers to be route monitors to cheer on walkers at designated spots along the 5k route. All are welcome, bring a friend if you want.
