Safe Babies Program, Scioto County Ohio

Safe Babies Program, Scioto County Ohio Scioto County Safe Babies is a child-focused, prevention-based program supporting families with children under 5.

Through collaboration with community partners, we strengthen families, reduce barriers, and promote safe, stable homes. Zero To Three's Safe Babies Court Team approach applies the science of early childhood development in meeting the urgent needs of infants and toddlers and strengthening their families.

-The goal is to advance the health and well-being of very young children and their families,

so they flourish.
-The target population is children birth to three years of age under court jurisdiction, who are in foster care or at risk of removal, and their families. SBCT's focuses on driving best practices for babies, toddlers and their families, removing barriers to racial equity and social justice and empowering parents and elevating the parent voice. At the heart of the SBCT approach is professionals coming together in partnership, across sectors, to engage in collaborative and proactive teamwork. This teamwork depends on leadership and staffing that supports the shift away from doing business as usual and towards improvement - always keeping the urgent developmental needs of infants and toddlers at the center of decision making.

Becoming a parent can bring joy, stress, exhaustion and everything in between. But one critical issue often goes unspoken: perinatal su***de risk.

Research shows that suicidal thoughts and behaviors among expectant and new parents are increasing, yet many parents struggle in silence due to stigma and fear of judgment.

This issue affects all types of parents and is often missed, especially when screening focuses only on depression instead of directly asking about su***de risk.

A caregiverโ€™s mental health is deeply connected to a childโ€™s development, making early detection and support essential.

Prevention is a community effort. Families, professionals, and policymakers all play a role in creating safe, supportive environments where parents can get the help they need: https://bit.ly/3NXeGSC
