Refugee Dream Center

Refugee Dream Center Mission
The Refugee Dream Center is established to create opportunities within the refugee community to facilitate their resettlement process in the U.S.

Healthcare Education & Orientation Program

The Refugee Dream Center, Inc. provides education and cultural orientation on healthcare. This summer, the Center is engaged in offering basic healthcare education to refugee families from different countries of origin. The program focuses on primary care operations, mental health and cultural barriers such as stigma and idioms of distress. Refugees are

taught about dietary processes, dental services, importance of keeping doctor’s appointments, not sharing medication, continuity in taking medication as prescribed, exercise, and general coping tools for stress and adjustment related issues. Youth Role Modelling Program: Refugee Youth Dream

This program focuses primarily on targeting teens and young adults. Refugee youth are specifically faced with a number of challenges due to acculturation pressure and educational gaps. The Refugee Youth Dream program engages such youth in meaningful activities geared towards improving their social functioning skills, prevent truancy, enhance entrance into college, prevent gangs and gang-related violence, and receive mentorship. These activities include the utilization of speeches, poetry, music, field trips, and art to inspire young people towards achieving. Youth are also supported in school and homework related needs. Refugee Adult Literacy & Job Readiness

This program includes training refugee adults in English as a Second Language (ESL), job and interview skills training, cultural enhancement training, training in basic computer skills, and referrals for supportive services including employment prospects, housing, and related social service needs. Refugee Dream Center offers interpreting in a wide range of languages via Refugee Interpreting Services, LLC. http://www.refugeeinterpretingservices.com

This past Saturday, June 13th, members of our youth program’s soccer group had the incredible opportunity to attend a training day with the Ghana National Team. The youth not only got to play alongside some of the players but also learned valuable skills directly from them. It was an unforgettable experience, allowing our participants to learn from the pros, take part in hands-on activities, and proudly represent RDC. We would like to once again thank our sponsors, DMK Sports and The Crypt PVD, for making this opportunity possible.

Refugee Dream Center was honored to participate in the 2026 Refugee Council USA Advocacy Days in Washington, D.C., represented by Night Jean Muhingabo and Jane Rapanganwa. Together, we joined more than 360 advocates from 38 states to meet with members of Congress and their staff to discuss issues impacting refugees, asylum seekers, and immigrant families.

During our meetings with Rhode Island's congressional delegation, we highlighted the urgent need to:
• Protect refugees, asylum seekers, and humanitarian populations from harmful enforcement actions.
• Address delays in asylum processing and work authorization.
• Restore fair and nondiscriminatory refugee admissions for people fleeing persecution and violence.
• Strengthen investments in refugee integration and workforce development.

We are grateful to Refugee Council USA and Rhode Island's congressional offices for their partnership and commitment to ensuring that refugee voices are heard.

Advocacy does not end in Washington—it begins in our communities.

Thank you!

Today, RDC & other legal partners held a press conference to celebrate a major victory for refugee and immigrant communities.

Refugee Dream Center and Dorcas International are proud to have successfully challenged the benefits freeze that put countless families in limbo and threatened access to critical immigration benefits. This ruling reaffirms that fairness, due process, and dignity must remain at the center of our immigration system.

We are deeply grateful to our legal partners, Lawyers Committee of RI, Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island, advocates, supporters, and the courageous community members who stood with us throughout this fight. Together, we helped ensure that vulnerable individuals and families can continue pursuing safety, stability, and opportunity without unnecessary barriers.

The work continues, but today we celebrate this important step forward. 💙

Refugee Dream Center founder Dr. Omar Bah was interviewed by The Boston Globe about the federal immigration benefits case put forward and won by RDC, Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island, and other partners.

Bah said, "this ruling affirms the American doctrine of the rule of law and a place for refuge and equality for all. People and the community and families have suffered from all of these arbitrary policies, but today we celebrate.”

We are proud to share that a federal judge has ruled in favor of the Refugee Dream Center, Dorcas International, and our partners in challenging policies that froze immigration benefits and work authorizations for thousands of immigrants and refugees.

For months, these policies created fear, uncertainty, and barriers for individuals and families working to build their lives in the United States. This decision reaffirms that the rule of law matters and that people deserve fair treatment under our immigration system.

As our Founder and Co-Executive Director Dr. Omar Bah stated, “They were wrong policies and today we have been vindicated. This ruling reaffirms the American doctrine of the rule of law, and place of refuge and equality for all that call it home.”

We remain committed to standing alongside immigrant and refugee communities and advocating for dignity, opportunity, and justice for all.
