One of the “benefits” of GLP-1 medications is that it can help calm food noise. But what if we worked to address food noise at its root?
Here are my top 3 places to start —
1️⃣ GET AHEAD OF IT: if we plan balanced meals with the key nutrients our body’s needs (Whole foods-based protein, fiber/carbs, healthy fat), we are more deeply satiated, at a cellular and metabolic level so we don’t need to think about food as much. Our bodies and brains LOVE consistent, balanced meals.
2️⃣ DON’T OVER RESTRICT: most of us are wired to want what we can’t have. It’s not sustainable. Plan for some “fun foods” or joy foods as one of my client’s likes to call them, 2-3x a week. For me, that’s good dark chocolate, matcha lattes, quality sourdough bread or pastry. If we know there’s space for enjoyed foods, it won’t preoccupy our mind as much.
3️⃣ KNOW THAT FOOD CRAVINGS COME IN WAVES: drink a glass of water/coffee/tea, PHYSICALLY go for a walk or get out of the kitchen/environment that’s tempting and do something else until that wave has passed.
We’ll talk more about this in the upcoming class — Beyond GLP-1s: 8 Root Causes of Weight Resistance & What to do Next — Tuesday 9/22 @ 7:30pm live webinar.
