The Virginia Health Workforce Development Authority (VHWDA) was established by the General Assembly t

The VHWDA assesses health workforce needs in Virginia; sets priorities for the AHEC program; informs the development of relevant health care workforce policy; promotes strategies for health workforce pipeline development; supports collaborations between communities, businesses and social organizations to facilitate recruitment and retention efforts; advocates reducing the student debt load of health professionals; identifies High Priority Target Areas (HPTAs) within each region of the Commonwealth; and aims to create innovative health workforce development models.

Yesterday, we visited Bath Community Hospital in beautiful Hot Springs, Virginia!

During our visit, we toured the hospital and met with leadership to discuss rural healthcare and explore opportunities to expand medical training and strengthen the region's healthcare workforce.

Give it up for R. Jay Lee! 🎉

Jay serves communities in the Pittsylvania-Danville and Southside Health Districts as a Heart Health Ambassador/Contractor with the Virginia Department of Health.

For Jay, completing our Community Health Worker (CHW) training meant gaining new perspectives and strengthening the skills he brings to his community. He highlighted the case studies as a way to put what he learned into practice.
