Today we recognize Juneteenth, a day that marks freedom, resilience, and the ongoing work of equity in America.

At Tandem, we recognize that racial trauma is real, clinically significant, and often undertreated. Black and Brown communities in Virginia face disproportionate barriers to behavioral health care, including access, affordability, stigma, and historical distrust of the healthcare system.

Equitable care isn't a talking point for us. It's a clinical commitment. We accept Medicaid, offer telehealth statewide, and work to meet people where they are, regardless of background or circumstance.

Tandem offers telehealth services statewide, including outpatient therapy, medication-assisted treatment, and our new GLP-1 wellness program. We accept Medicaid and work to keep the intake process as simple as possible.

You can't treat a substance use disorder in a vacuum.

Housing instability, food insecurity, transportation barriers, and unemployment don't pause while someone is in treatment. They're part of the clinical picture.

Tandem addresses social determinants of health as part of our care model, including housing scholarship support for eligible patients. Because stable housing isn't a luxury in recovery. It's a clinical necessity.

Not everyone who needs treatment needs to step away from their life entirely.

Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP) is a structured level of care that allows people to receive clinical treatment while continuing to live at home, work, and maintain family responsibilities.

At Tandem, IOP typically includes:
- Group therapy sessions multiple times per week
- Individual counseling
- Medication management when appropriate
- Peer support and recovery planning
- Connection to community resources

IOP is often the right fit for people stepping down from a higher level of care, or for those whose needs go beyond standard outpatient therapy.

The connection between mental health and physical health is not a theory. It's clinical reality.

Research continues to show that GLP-1 receptor agonists may have benefits beyond weight management, including potential effects on mood, inflammation, and even substance use patterns.

Not every crisis requires hospitalization. Not every crisis can be managed at home.

A residential Crisis Stabilization Unit is designed for adults who need more support than outpatient care can provide, but who don't require the full structure of inpatient psychiatric hospitalization.

Referrals to Tandem's CSU will come through hospitals, emergency departments, licensed clinicians, and other behavioral health providers. Once referred, each individual receives a physical exam, a biopsychosocial assessment, and a treatment plan tailored to their needs.

Length of stay is individualized. The goal is stabilization and connection to the right next level of care.

Tandem's residential CSU launches this summer in Bedford County, Virginia. Accepting referrals statewide.
