Tiki Bar & Thickened Liquid Flight at Rochester Center!
Today, our team at Rochester Center enjoyed a fun, interactive, and educational staff training experience with a tropical twist!
Staff participated in a "Thickened Liquid Flight" featuring thin, nectar and honey consistencies, allowing them to taste and experience firsthand the different textures many of our residents may require due to changes in their health and swallowing abilities. By stepping into our residents' shoes, team members gained a greater understanding of the challenges, preferences, and adaptations that can come with conditions affecting swallowing. This hands-on learning experience helps strengthen empathy, improve resident-centered care, and promote safe dining practices.
The tropical-themed Tiki Bar made learning engaging and memorable while encouraging meaningful conversations about dysphagia management and the importance of individualized care.
A big thank you to everyone who participated and embraced this opportunity to learn through experience. At Rochester Center, we are committed to continuous education, teamwork, and enhancing the quality of life for those we serve.

Today’s Staff Pot Luck was a wonderful success! A huge thank you to the Rochester Center Staff Development Team for organizing and providing such a fun and delicious event for everyone to enjoy. It was great to see staff come together, share amazing food, and enjoy time with one another! We’re excited to announce that the next Staff Pot Luck will be held on June 25th! We encourage all staff to participate and join in the fun. A sign-up sheet will be posted outside the Activities Room beginning June 16th.

Painting, coloring, and crafts are vital in nursing homes because they provide essential physical, cognitive, and emotional stimulation. These activities help maintain fine motor skills, reduce stress through meditative focus, and foster social connections. Today residents at Rochester Center were able to enjoy painting, coloring , crafts, cookies and lemonade! Residents also enjoyed singing along to the great music as well!

Music and movement in nursing homes are highly effective therapeutic interventions that improve residents' physical mobility, cognitive function, and emotional well-being. By engaging the brain's preserved musical memories, these programs reduce anxiety and the residents have so much fun! Yesterday at Rochester Center after BINGO we turned up some music and played some instruments. Residents and staff had a blast!
