Last weekend, our community came together for the 40th anniversary of Strides for Action — walking, running, volunteering, remembering, celebrating, and showing up for one another.

The LGBTQIA+ Aging Project recognizes June 5th as National HIV Long-Term Survivors Awareness Day. This day honors the ongoing resilience of our community members who have been living with HIV for as many as 40 years, while also remembering those we lost to the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

In Massachusetts, 64% of people living with HIV are over the age of 50. That number is expected to rise to 70% by 2030.

Researchers from Boston Medical Center, Boston University, Fenway Health, and FIU are recruiting participants for a study exploring barriers to HIV care — including stigma — and identifying ways to improve support and access.

Participants may:
✅ Complete research visits virtually or in person
✅ Receive behavioral health text messages
✅ Earn compensation for study visits
✅ Receive referral bonuses for eligible participants

MassHealth is more than insurance — it is access to HIV treatment, PrEP, primary care, mental health services, sexual health services, gender-affirming care, and the support people need to stay healthy.

Changes to Medicaid in HR 1 could mean approximately 150,000 Massachusetts residents lose MassHealth coverage while federal Medicaid funding is cut by more than $900 billion over the next decade.

For LGBTQIA+ communities, people living with HIV, and those who rely on safety-net providers, losing coverage could mean delayed care, interrupted treatment, and new barriers to essential services.

Fenway Without Walls reflects our commitment to supporting communities beyond the walls of our clinics; connecting people with resources, education, community support, and opportunities to stay informed and engaged during moments that impact LGBTQIA+ health and healthcare access.
