College doesn’t come with a user manual—and managing ADHD on top of classes, work, relationships, and everyday responsibilities can be a lot.
A few strategies that may help:
⏰ Make time visible. Use timers, alarms, calendars, and reminders instead of relying on your brain to keep track.
📝 Break it down. “Write my paper” can feel overwhelming. Try “open the document” → “find my notes” → “write one paragraph.”
🎧 Change your environment. Try a library, study room, background music, or studying alongside a friend to find what helps you focus.
🏃 Build in movement. A quick walk, stretch, or movement break can help reset your attention.
🎯 Work with your attention—not against it. Notice when and where you focus best, and use those patterns to your advantage.
💛 Give yourself some grace. Struggling with executive functioning doesn't mean you're lazy or not trying hard enough.
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to ADHD. Experiment, find what works, and adjust when it doesn’t. And if you need additional support, Counseling Services is here to help.
