On Monday, Alternatives Pregnancy Center’s OB-GYN, Dr. Wong, testified in opposition to AB 1973, a bill currently moving through the California legislative process.
AB 1973 would expand authorization for second- and third-trimester abortion procedures to medical providers who do NOT have the specialized surgical training traditionally required for these complex procedures.
During the second trimester, the most common abortion procedure is Dilation and Evacuation (D&E), which involves dilating the cervix and using surgical instruments and suction to remove the fetus and placental tissue. By this stage, the unborn child has recognizable features, formed organs, and movement that many mothers can feel. Because of the child's increased size and development, the procedure is more complex and often requires specialized surgical instruments.
Third-trimester abortions are less common but even more medically complex, often involving induced labor and delivery.
These realities remind us that later-term abortions are not simple medical procedures. They involve ending the life of a significantly developed unborn child and require a high level of medical expertise.
As a pro-Gospel, pro-woman, and pro-life clinic, we believe every person is created in the image of God and worthy of dignity and protection. We also believe women deserve the highest standard of medical care, especially when facing complex pregnancies and difficult circumstances.
Because of this, we are deeply concerned about legislation that would lower the level of specialized training required for these procedures.
Will you join us in praying that California’s leaders would be guided by wisdom and truth? Please pray for the protection of unborn children, compassionate support for mothers, and policies that uphold the dignity and value of every human life.
