"Justin never hesitates to jump in and help. He is incredibly knowledgeable, responsive, and always focused on finding a solution. Whether it’s a server problem, phone malfunction, phone tree update, or a simple greeting change, Justin takes the time to make sure everything is working as it should. Our ability to care for patients truly starts with them being able to reach us, and without a reliable phone system, our practices simply couldn’t function. Justin’s behind-the-scenes dedication makes a real difference every day, and his support allows our team to stay focused on providing the best possible care to our patients."

An excerpt from Kristen’s nomination:
"Kristen took a late-night shift admission. As the patient’s wife was preparing to leave, Kristen asked if she knew her way. She stated she was not very familiar with Covenant, so she offered to walk her. Kristen could tell she was starting to look uncomfortable, and the visitor said she couldn’t remember where she parked. Kristen walked her to the parking lot and was able to help her locate her car and send her safely on her way. Kristen routinely sees her patients as a whole being, taking the time to care for their needs but also the needs of their family. Kristen deserves this award for the compassionate care she provides every shift and for the exceptional nurse she is and the impact she has at Covenant HealthCare."

🎉 Join us in celebrating Laura Walker, RN, recipient of the 2026 Carleen K. Moore, RN Nursing Excellence Award, presented by Saginaw Valley State University! 🎉

For more than 30 years, Laura has dedicated her career to caring for patients and strengthening communities across Michigan. Her nursing journey has taken her through Cardiac Care, the ICU, Stroke and Trauma Services, and even 11 years as a flight nurse, providing lifesaving care in some of healthcare’s most critical moments.

Beyond her work at Covenant HealthCare, Laura is a passionate advocate for injury prevention and community education. Through her leadership of Safety Town, she has helped hundreds of children learn essential safety skills and life lessons. She also serves as a camp nurse and recruiter for the Great Lakes Burn Camp, leads community safety initiatives, and advocates for programs like Stop the Bleed to help create safer communities for future generations.

It is her dedication to patient care, passion for community service, and commitment to improving the health and safety of others that make Laura truly extraordinary.

For 25 years, Jill has dedicated her career to educating, mentoring, and inspiring the next generation of nurses. Her passion for professional development and workforce excellence has helped shape countless careers while strengthening the future of healthcare in our region.

When the pandemic challenged traditional clinical education, Jill helped create innovative opportunities for nursing students and new graduates to gain hands-on experience and confidently enter the profession. Through her leadership, programs such as the Covenant HealthCare Nurse Intern Program and Discover Covenant have created pathways for aspiring healthcare professionals and strengthened the nursing workforce for years to come.

Beyond her work at Covenant HealthCare, Jill serves on the Carrollton School Board, has spent more than two decades guiding nursing students through their clinical experiences, and continues to pursue advanced education herself, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to learning and growth.

🎉 Join us in celebrating Deborah “Deb” Maida, RN, a recipient of the 2026 Carleen K. Moore, RN Nursing Excellence Award, presented by Saginaw Valley State University! 🎉

As an oncology nurse, Deb does far more than provide exceptional care. She brings comfort, encouragement, and hope when patients need it most. Nominated by a patient whose life she touched, Deb was recognized for the countless ways she goes above and beyond, from remembering favorite snacks and warm blankets to offering reassuring words that help patients face treatment one day at a time.

Her compassion, kindness, and genuine connection with patients transform difficult moments into opportunities for strength and healing. The patient who nominated Deb shared that her support made one of the hardest experiences of life feel bearable and served as a constant reminder that no one has to face cancer alone.

We are proud to recognize James Scarbrough, NP, as our June 2026 Provider of the Month – Advanced Practice Provider (APP)!

Jim joined the Covenant HealthCare Advanced Practice Practitioner Staff in March 2023 and is American Academy of Nurse Practitioners certified. As a valued member of our Radiology team, Jim is known for his compassionate approach, clear communication, and comforting nature.

Here is what a patient and colleague shared:

• “James Scarbrough (Jim) did the arthrogram, and he explained everything he was doing. He put me at ease and gained my trust right away. He made an uncomfortable procedure endurable…I really appreciated him.”
