Meet Dr. Rebecca Winokur! Dr. Winokur joined Corner Medical in April as a primary care provider. A resident of central Vermont, Dr. Winokur received her M.D. from UVM’s Larner College of Medicine in 2000 and completed her family medicine residency from the University of Vermont Medical Center in 2003.

“I really think NVRH is a special place,” she says. “The staff, the culture, the teamwork, and the level of community engagement shows in the level of care we provide.”

Sneak Peek! This morning CALEX ambulance employees got a tour of the expanded Emergency Department space at NVRH from Emergency Management Coordinator Alissa Fontaine and ED Nursing Director Sarah Christman. The new ED, part of our West Wing Project, gives our staff and first responders much-needed room to treat patients, including new trauma rooms, a designated mental health area, and streamlined spaces to improve patient flow. The ED staff will begin to transition into the new space towards the end of August.

We were thrilled to give supporters of our West Wing Project a first look at our expanded Emergency Department, named after beloved NVRH pediatrician Dr. David Toll. The space will offer much-needed room, resources, and privacy for ED patients and staff, including consultation rooms and designated trauma and mental health areas.

Last week, NVRH hosted the team from VPQHC to conduct a training on Trauma Responsive Care. This presentation touched on topics in caring for folks who have complex trauma and how they may present in the ED, in practice, community health or care management. The idea is to better understand what folks may bring with them in terms of past experiences and trauma, so we can provide better care. The TRC Training hosted by VPQHC is an extension of the work of our Respect and Safety Alliance and the efforts of our BERT team supporting staff, patients and families with de-escalation best practices.
