Yesterday, Erika Aime Baeza, Mental Health Awareness Training Coordinator and Jason Vaquera, MHFA Coordinator/Outreach Worker visited Goodfellow AFB - 17th Training Wing and had the honor of training 10 individuals in Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) for Military, Veterans, and their Families.

The training provides tools for service members, veterans, and family members of military personnel to help others who may be experiencing mental health or substance use challenges.

Our MHFA for Military, Veterans, and their Families training is part of our Adult MHFA community-specific programs. Other specialized programs include: Higher Education, Fire and EMS, Public Safety, Corrections, Older Adults, Rural Communities, and Spanish Speakers.

On 05/14/2026, Jason Vaquera, Mental Health First Aid Coordinator/Outreach Worker and Erika Aime Baeza, Mental Health Awareness Training Coordinator, had the privilege of hosting an Adult Mental Health First Aid training at MHMR Concho Valley. Participants joined us from throughout the surrounding community. Organizations represented include: MHMR Concho Valley, West Texas Counseling & Guidance, Endeavors, Peace Ambassadors of West Texas, and Shannon Medical Center.

Just like CPR, Mental Health First Aid gives us the tools to support someone in a moment of need—but instead of a physical injury, we’re learning how to identify and respond to signs of mental health or substance use challenges. We'd like to send a huge shoutout to all the participants who showed up ready to learn, build confidence, and help make our community a safer, more supportive place. You are now equipped with the ALGEE action plan to be a lifeline for someone in crisis.
Remember: You don't have to be an expert to make a difference—you just have to be there.
