Understanding the difference between receptive and expressive language can help make learning more meaningful!
🧠 Receptive Language is what a child understands. To build these skills, encourage your child to identify objects, colors, letters, and pictures. Activities that involve pointing, identifying, and following simple directions are great ways to strengthen receptive language.
💬 Expressive Language is how a child communicates what they know. To encourage expressive language, ask simple “WH” questions like “What is that?” Or “Who is that?”
These opportunities help children practice labeling, answering questions, and expressing their thoughts✨
