A nonprofit group of clinicians, scientistic and engineers dedicated to the scientific development of neuromodulation via chapters, meetings & journal Neuromodulation; Join us for in Lisbon, Portugal | 9–14 May 2026 The vision of the INS is to harness all scientific, clinical and engineering endeavour throughout the world and to brand neuromodulation to encompass all implantable neurological technologies that through electrical or chemical means improve the function of the impaired individual. The goals of the INS are:

To create a forum for clinicians, basic scientists and bioengineers involved with neuromodulation through a combination of scientific meetings, journal and interactive website
To create a family of affiliated neuromodulation national chapters to encourage growth and influence at national level
To encourage research and development into the conditions treated and the devices and techniques used
To encourage open dialogue with industry partners and health care authorities to improve understanding of these therapies, the needs of patients, service requirements and fair remuneration
To expand the worldwide access to neuromodulation by raising awareness of the both its clinical efficacy and cost effectiveness

This free, 90-minute session will explore new research on dorsal root ganglion stimulation for chronic pelvic pain secondary to endometriosis, burst stimulation and its effects on bladder and urethral pressure in sacral neuromodulation, and the link between motor response, lead placement and urologic efficacy — with a focus on clinical translation and emerging applications.

This October, we continue our series spotlighting global health awareness days relevant to the International Neuromodulation Society, with World Mental Health Day on October 10. 💚

World Mental Health Day is observed every year on 10 October to raise global awareness of mental health issues and mobilize support for mental well-being worldwide. The theme for 2026 is "Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change."

As a society dedicated to advancing neuromodulation, we're glad to support today's message. Neuromodulation therapies are among the options being studied and used for some people living with treatment-resistant mental health conditions. We'll continue sharing updates from our community throughout October.

🏆 Congratulations, Dr. Slavin!

The INS is proud to congratulate our President, Konstantin Slavin, MD, on receiving the Spiegel & Wycis Award for promising research in the field of Stereotactic and Functional Surgery, one of the most prestigious honors in the field. The award was presented at the 21st World Congress of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery (WSSFN), held last week in Marseille, France (September 30 – October 3).

Named after Ernest Spiegel and Henry Wycis, the pioneers of human stereotactic surgery, the award recognizes salient and unique contributions to the field. In presenting it, the WSSFN highlighted Dr. Slavin's role in:

🔹Advancing functional neurosurgery and neuromodulation: peripheral nerve stimulation, spinal cord stimulation and deep brain stimulation
🔹Pain and functional neurosurgery: complex pain, facial pain, movement disorders and stereotactic surgery
🔹Building the field: as a researcher, educator and international leader

Dr. Slavin is a Past President of the World Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery (WSSFN) (2022–2024) and of the American Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery (ASSFN). He is also Professor and Chief of Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

29 September is World Heart Day ❤️

Established in 2000 by the World Heart Federation in collaboration with the World Health Organization, World Heart Day raises awareness of cardiovascular disease, the world's leading cause of death, and encourages people and communities to take action to protect heart health.

Spinal cord stimulation is recognized in international cardiology guidelines as an option for people with refractory angina, chest pain that persists despite optimal medical therapy and revascularization, and researchers continue to explore how neuromodulation of the nerves that regulate the heart may support cardiovascular care.
