Over the past week, several leading scientific and news organizations—including The New England Journal of Medicine, Science, The New York Times, and GSK—have highlighted promising Phase 3 clinical trial results for bepirovirsen, an investigational treatment for chronic hepatitis B.

The studies found that approximately 19–20% of participants achieved a functional cure, meaning they maintained undetectable hepatitis B virus and surface antigen levels after completing treatment. In some groups of patients with lower viral activity, cure rates reached 26%. While additional review and regulatory approval are still needed, these findings represent one of the most encouraging advances in hepatitis B treatment in decades.

For the nearly 300 million people worldwide living with chronic hepatitis B, this research offers something many have been waiting for: hope for treatment options that go beyond lifelong viral suppression. We all at Hep B Free cannot wait to learn more about further advances and encourage you all to learn more from the links provided below!

May 19 was World Hepatitis Testing Day.
A 5-minute blood test could save your life. Nearly 2 out of 3 people living with hepatitis B don’t know they have it, yet chronic hepatitis B can increase the risk of liver cancer by up to 100 times.

The good news? Most insurance plans, including Medicaid and Medicare, cover hepatitis B testing. Talk to your doctor and schedule your test today.

Happy World Hepatitis Testing Day!

Asian Americans make up about 6% of the U.S. population, yet carry nearly 60% of the burden of hepatitis B.

In the San Francisco Bay Area, Asians are about 20% of the population, but account for nearly 85% of hepatitis B cases.

These disparities are real and preventable.
