For Rummy and Antonio, resilience is part of their story. When Rummy suffered an aneurysm, Cottage helped her heal. Months prior, a heart procedure at Cottage saved Antonio’s life. This year they celebrate 55 years of marriage with four generations of family.

For 135 years, Cottage has cared for this community.

When Emily’s family lost their home to the Palisades Fire, she was pregnant with her fourth child. They found safety in Santa Barbara — and Cottage. At just 28 weeks, Emily’s water broke, and she was rushed to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. Baby Athena was born weighing two pounds and eight ounces. “She was so little, but she looked strong,” Emily said.

Athena spent the next 65 days in the Haselton Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, cared for by whom Emily calls “angels” -- doctors, nurses and staff. This month, they celebrate Athena’s first birthday. Athena is healthy, thriving and loves her siblings, the beach and spreading her own special joy. Happy birthday, Athena!

This Doctor’s Day, we’re recognizing the physicians who care for our patients across Cottage Health and the communities we serve. Whether it’s a routine visit or a life-changing moment, they’re there, bringing skill, judgment and a steady presence when it matters most. We’re grateful for all they do, every day.

At 26 weeks pregnant, Faviola arrived at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with swelling, shortness of breath and dangerously high blood pressure. Diagnosed with severe preeclampsia, she had to deliver early to save her life and her baby’s. Camila, born just over two pounds, spent 11 weeks in the Cottage NICU, where the care team supported her family and celebrated every milestone. Today, Camila is thriving, and Faviola still shares photos with the team who helped them through the hardest time of their lives.
