Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital provides advanced technology and greater comfort. This new state-of-the-art facility will serve the growing community of Goleta Valley. Today, Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital admits more than 1,500 patients a year and sees more than 18,000 emergency visits.

For Alexis, nursing is a family tradition, and Cottage is where she chose to carry it on. Tuition reimbursement has helped her grow as a nurse, and support from Cottage helped her buy her first home. She’s building her career and her life in her hometown.

Congratulations to Alyssa D., RN, on receiving the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses!

The DAISY Award recognizes nurses who make an extraordinary difference through their compassionate care. What makes this recognition especially meaningful is that nominations come from patients, families and colleagues who have witnessed their dedication firsthand.

During a recent hospitalization, one patient was especially moved by Alyssa’s compassion, clinical expertise and attention to detail. The patient shared:

“She demonstrates the rare ability to combine clinical precision with genuine compassion. She is intelligent, attentive, and highly professional while also being warm, personable, and reassuring. Nurses like Alyssa are the reason patients feel safe, respected, and hopeful during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.”

At Cottage Health, supporting our employees means supporting their families, too. The Orfalea Children’s Center (OCC) at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital provides childcare for employees, with an upcoming expansion that will allow us to support even more families.

OCC offers a nurturing environment where children can learn, grow and thrive, while giving their parents peace of mind throughout the workday.

For Cottage nurse Amber Navarro, the center has been an invaluable source of support for her family.

“Sending my child to Orfalea Children’s Center has been such a blessing for our family. Being able to drop my child off before work helps ease the morning stress on my partner as we balance life with three children. I appreciate the nutritious meals OCC thoughtfully provides, and when my child was an infant, having the ability to nurse and feed them during my breaks was invaluable.

The teachers are truly amazing, showering our children with love and care while providing heartfelt, detailed updates that give me peace of mind throughout the day. OCC provides so much more than childcare. They provide comfort, support, and a loving community for our entire family.”

For the past five years, Denise has been helping patients of all ages at Cottage Urgent Care, caring for them through life's unexpected illnesses and injuries.

Along the way, she's continued to build her skills, earning her X-ray certification with support from Cottage Health’s Workforce Development Training Program.

Today marks an exciting milestone for the future of healthcare education in our community!

Cottage Health was proud to join San Marcos High School and Santa Barbara Unified School District in celebrating the groundbreaking of a new learning space that will be home to the Cottage Health Careers Academy!

For decades, the Cottage Health Careers Academy has helped prepare local students for careers in healthcare. This new, modern learning space will build on that legacy, providing students with hands-on learning opportunities and experiences that prepare them for the healthcare careers of tomorrow.

Cottage Health President and CEO Scott Wester joined school and community leaders to celebrate this milestone, alongside Cottage leaders and staff who have played an instrumental role in supporting this longstanding partnership.

We're grateful to the educators, community partners and supporters who are helping bring this vision to life and look forward to the opportunities the Cottage Health Careers Academy will create for students.

Approximately 15 Cottage team members volunteered their time to connect with an estimated 1,000 attendees, sharing valuable health resources and information to support healthy aging and well-being.

Breast Health: What every woman should know
Join us for a FREE virtual Meet the Doctor event with Rosa Choi, MD, a board-certified breast surgeon at Cottage Breast Health Clinic.

Dr. Choi will discuss maintaining good breast health, the importance of mammograms, breast imaging options and when to see a breast surgeon. The event will also include a Q&A session, giving participants an opportunity to ask questions directly to Dr. Choi in a confidential setting.

What a special night for Cottage Nursing!

On Saturday, October 10, Cottage nurse Kerry MacIntosh was recognized at halftime of the UCSB vs. Cal Poly men’s soccer game during Cottage Night in front of nearly 17,000 fans!

Kerry, recently named Cottage Health Nurse of the Year, was honored with a special ball presentation with UCSB Athletic Director, Kelly Barsky. Kerry's Nurse of the Year honor celebrates her dedication, compassion and extraordinary commitment to our patients and community.
