💜

Words matter. 🤍

When someone we care about experiences pregnancy or infant loss, we often desperately want to say the “right” thing. And sometimes, in an effort to comfort them, we reach for words meant to offer hope or reassurance.

But phrases like “Everything happens for a reason,” “At least you can try again,” or “You have other children” can unintentionally minimize a parent’s grief.

You don’t need to explain their loss.
You don’t need to find the silver lining.
You don’t need to fix their grief.

Sometimes the most meaningful words are also the simplest:

💜 “I’m so sorry.”
💜 “I’m here for you.”
💜 “Your baby mattered.”
💜 “I remember your baby.”
💜 “What would be helpful right now?”

And sometimes, simply listening is enough.

During Pregnancy & Infant Loss Awareness Month, we hope to help our community become more comfortable supporting families after loss. Save this post for a time when you may need it, and share it to help others understand how their words can offer comfort.

Bereaved parents, if you feel comfortable sharing: What words brought you comfort after your loss—or what do you wish someone had said to you?

Your experiences may help someone else better support a grieving family. 🦋

I’m so excited to officially share that I am now certified in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C)!

This certification represents a lot of continued education, training, and dedication to providing thoughtful, trauma-informed care during one of the most significant transitions in a person’s life.

My practice has a particular focus on perinatal mental health, pregnancy and infant loss, reproductive trauma, TFMR, grief and loss, and the emotional experiences surrounding pregnancy, birth, and postpartum adjustment.

While perinatal mental health is a specialty area of my practice, I do not exclusively work with the perinatal population. I also work with adults experiencing grief, life transitions, relationship and interpersonal concerns, anxiety, and other emotional challenges.

At this time, my caseload is full and I am not currently accepting new clients. However, I am always happy to connect with clients, providers, and community professionals who are looking for guidance about appropriate referrals.

I also welcome conversations with OB/GYNs, pediatricians, midwives, doulas, nurses, therapists, psychiatric providers, social workers, and other professionals who work with perinatal families or who are interested in learning more about how we can better support the perinatal community.

If you are a professional looking to strengthen your understanding of perinatal mental health, build your referral network, or simply talk through ways to better support the families you serve, please feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to connect and collaborate.

I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue growing in this area of work and to advocate for better, more informed mental health support throughout the perinatal and reproductive journey.

Postpartum Support International offers a wealth of support for a wide range of concerns throughout the perinatal and reproductive period.

I’m so excited to see them expanding their support to include parents beyond the one year mark!

Parenting toddlers is hard work, and the transition into this stage can bring its own unique challenges. Support shouldn’t have an expiration date and quality support is out there! 💛

If you’re in the toddler years and finding yourself needing a little extra support, know that you don’t have to navigate it alone. Check out the support group offered by PSI.

Support for Parents of One to Four Year Old Children is an online peer-led support group to help you connect with other parents, talk about your experiences, and learn about helpful tools and resources.
