☀️ We are addicted to all things SUMMER!
Being a student at a year-round school does NOT mean that we don’t take much needed breaks, rest when our bodies need it, or miss out on summer fun.
Year-round school means that we don’t have to live by arbitrary dates set into motion by curriculum. We don’t rush through content. We want mastery learning! We want kids to enjoy the learning process without the constant pressure of time restrictions.
It means a little less homework and a little more family time. Children spend 10% of their life in school, and that does not include commutes, extracurricular activities, or optional school events. We believe that 10% is plenty! Other life skills happen in real-life contexts, and we don’t want to interrupt those moments with more academic work.
We make time for enrichments year round. This is the JOIE de VIVRE of life & learning. The arts & sciences are often the first experiences to go when teachers experience a time crunch. Bring on the art classes, individualized music lessons, theater, & socials… EVERY semester of the year. Many of our best teaching moments happen during highly-motivating activities such as these! Social skills are acquired in social contexts. Trying new things is made easier when they occur with our favorite people in the comfort of our home (or places that feel like home).
Year-round school also allows parents to plan family vacations when they want to! Some people can’t handle the blistering heat due to seizure disorders or body temperature regulation issues. Disney in November? Do it! The beach in September? You decide. Parents can enjoy their vacations guilt-free, without fear of coming back home to make-up work.
☀️ So we live life as if it’s always summer. ☀️ It’s a vibe. ☀️ A way of thinking. ☀️
