🫀 Practice Makes Perfect!

Our senior Cardiovascular Technology students are sharpening their echocardiography skills using our state-of-the-art echo simulator! 🫀🖥️

The simulator allows students to practice obtaining cardiac views, making measurements, optimizing images, and identifying anatomy in a realistic, hands-on environment.

And they’re not stopping with normal anatomy—cardiac pathology is next! Students can use the simulator to encounter abnormal findings and practice recognizing what happens when the heart doesn’t quite follow the textbook. ❤️🔍

Working in the cath lab means working around radiation—but knowing how to protect yourself is part of the job!

Our junior Cardiovascular Technology students had a special guest lecture from radiologic technologist Ms. Jessica Love, MSRS, RT(R)(CI), on radiation safety in the cardiac cath lab.

They learned how time, distance, and shielding help reduce radiation exposure and why good safety habits matter for both patients and the healthcare team.

After all…the best exposure is less exposure! 😄☢️

Back to class and ready for a new semester! 🫀📚

Our junior Cardiovascular Technology students kicked off the semester by building on the patient care skills they’ll need as they prepare to enter the cardiac cath lab for clinical rotations.

Faculty introduced oxygen delivery devices and the basics of arterial blood gas (ABG) interpretation. These topics help students connect foundational patient care concepts with the cardiovascular setting.

Next up: taking those skills from the classroom to the cath lab! ❤️

A look back at how our CVT seniors wrapped up their summer clinicals! 🫀📚

At the end of July, our senior Cardiovascular Technology students presented patient cases from their clinical experiences, connecting classroom knowledge with the real-world patient care they’re experiencing in the clinical setting.

We were also excited to have our CVT graduate join the presentations and share a patient case of her own!

With another semester underway, our seniors are one step closer to graduation! 🎓❤️

A look back at summer clinicals! 🫀

Our senior Cardiovascular Technology students spent part of their summer refining their skills in the cardiac catheterization lab, including proper setup and operation of the manifold.

Used throughout cardiac catheterization procedures, the manifold helps control the flow of saline and contrast media while allowing continuous pressure monitoring. Proper setup and operation are essential for accurate data, patient safety, and an efficient procedure.

Now just one semester away from graduation, our seniors are continuing to build on these clinical experiences as they prepare for the Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) credential and careers in invasive cardiovascular technology.

Building the skills that start at bedside & lead to cath lab! 🫀🩺

This summer, our Junior Cardiovascular Technology students practiced essential patient assessment skills, including measuring blood pressure and palpating pulses.

As they begin the second semester, they’re ready for the next step: Cath Lab Fundamentals! They’ll build on these patient care skills as they begin learning the equipment, procedures, safety practices, and workflow of the cardiac catheterization lab.

🫀 Career conversations. Real-world advice. Future CVT professionals. ❤️

Last week, our junior Cardiovascular Technology students had the opportunity to learn from two outstanding cardiovascular professionals—a cardiac sonographer and an invasive cardiovascular sales representative. They shared their career journeys, discussed the many paths available in cardiovascular care, offered insight into different work environments, and emphasized the communication and teamwork skills that make a difference every day.

Experiences like these help bridge the gap between the classroom and the workplace, giving our students a firsthand look at the exciting opportunities that await them. 🎓✨

Training together. Learning together. Saving lives together.

Students from our Cardiovascular Technology and Health Shreveport Cardiopulmonary Science programs recently came together for hands-on CPR training during their American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) course.

Healthcare is a team effort, and learning alongside future colleagues from related disciplines helps prepare our students for the collaborative environment they'll experience in clinical practice. Through high-quality CPR training, they are building the technical skills, communication, and teamwork needed to respond confidently when every second counts.

We're proud to see these future healthcare professionals growing together as they prepare to make a difference in the lives of their patients.
