Quick tip for when you are characterizing...

Before this step DO NOT over wash your parts and do not cure them until all of the characterization is added

This will allow for the added resin to bond to the parts better

I LOVE doing Trial Smiles!!!

It is also so much more fun and easier with digital dentistry

Doing this before 3D printing for me would have been much more time consuming and expensive

It would have meant impressions and then a lab waxing up the case, then making a putty matrix and using an acrylic material to create the trial smile in the patients mouth, then you would have to trim that up before letting the patient see it

Today, it is an appt where we take an intraoral digital impression, a few pictures, and then I design the case on exocad. If the patient wants to do it same day we can print it quickly and try it in same day

Otherwise we are easily ready to do this the next day after printing

I try it in , we take some pictures and then I send it home with the patient so they can show their people

Then from here this also easily converted into actual temps

I always get asked how I learned this.

I will say it again and again, the team at The MOD Institute are the very best and their new MOD PRO is THE BEST value and resource in dentistry. Wally and Mike and the team are first class!

Putting together the teeth and denture base

I love the control this process has given me

To be able to design in exocad and then print and finish my prosthetics has been really fun

It makes me feel even more connected to my patients as I personalize their smile with my own hands in the lab

Learned most of what I do from Wally and Mike at the MOD Institute

Your support settings can make life either really easy or can cause a lot of stress

These should peel right off like velcro

The 3D printed mockup for a smile Try-In is so fun!!!

A case like this with a large diastema can be tricky

But a quick design on exocad and a quick print on my Form4 and we can easily do this

Being able to show the patient what it could look like is so nice

Especially in a case where we have discussed all options including Ortho and veneers, both no prep and aggressive prep

This can help the patient visualize what a no prep would like if they refuse to do Ortho

What do you think?

What would you do here?

This is also probably the number 1 thing I get asked for help with is the exocad design on these mockups

The best place to learn this is hands down MOD PRO from The MOD Institute

I am working is some classes but MOD PRO is an all inclusive way to get into design and digital dentistry with milling and printing

I love attending a good CE!

There is something about learning new things, challenging my ways of doing and thinking, being around other professionals that are much wiser than me, it is all so good!

It brings me back into the office with some renewed energy and focus.

This CE was about locator dentures, both removable and fixed and it was really well done by Dr. Saab!

I hope I always want to learn and improve, and I think if I catch myself not wanting to... that's when it may be time to hang it up!

The lowriders were out in force in Vegas this weekend

Quick tip: don't do a full rinse cycle in your alcohol prior to bonding the gums and teeth

I do some spraying of alcohol and a quick dip and shake to get most of the resin off but I don't want to completely dessicate my print.

This will allow for a better bonding of these two pieces

Resin is expensive and there is no reason to throw this away

So when you remove a print just scrape that excess off and back into the tank

This is also easier to do when the print is first finished and the resin is still warm, it runs off very easy
