In May 2026, Makayla Nelson, an 18 year old from Tyler, Texas, achieved a significant milestone by graduating from Tyler High School.

Makayla was diagnosed with kidney cancer in sixth grade and faced three additional battles as the disease spread to her lungs and brain. Through extensive treatments including surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, and stem cell transplants, she continued to move forward with strength, supported closely by her mother, Sherree Nelson, and her faith.

Despite ongoing medical challenges, she remained focused on her future and plans to study pediatric oncology nursing at University of Texas at Tyler. Her journey reflects extraordinary resilience and hope for helping other children facing cancer.
