Today is National Bereaved Parents Day (July 3).

My heart goes out to those that have lost a child. Sadly, I have seen too many people suffering the loss of a child in the last 25 years of my work.

National Bereaved Parents Day (July 3) originated in the United Kingdom in 2020 through the charity A Child of Mine. It is officially a UK awareness campaign rather than a U.S. national observance.

However, over the past few years, a number of U.S. organizations have also chosen to observe July 3.

For example:

* The Compassionate Friends has recognized July 3 as National Bereaved Parents Day in its awareness efforts.
* The National Institutes of Health recognizes July as National Bereaved Parents Month and provides resources for bereaved parents, though it does not designate July 3 as an official U.S. observance.

And so should we observe this day and hold in our thoughts support, compassion and love for those who have suffered a loss.
