It’s something I’ve noticed over and over again. Someone starts making changes to their diet or begins using a natural supplement. They get a mild headache, feel a little more tired for a day, or notice changes in their digestion and immediately assume something is wrong.
Yet many of those same people have taken medications with pages of potential side effects, including serious warnings, without asking nearly as many questions.
I’m not saying pharmaceuticals don’t have a place. They absolutely can. And I’m not saying every symptom during a natural health program is a “healing reaction”…sometimes it’s a sign that something should be adjusted or stopped. But most of the time it’s a sign the brilliant body is doing its job!
What I am saying is this: we should bring the same level of curiosity, discernment, and informed decision-making to everything we put into our bodies.
Instead of asking, “Is this natural or pharmaceutical?” ask:
• Why am I taking this?
• What are the potential benefits?
• What are the potential risks?
• Is this reaction expected, temporary, or something I should discuss with my practitioner?
Nature isn’t automatically safe. Pharmaceuticals aren’t automatically harmful. Both deserve respect, education, and thoughtful consideration.
The goal isn’t to fear one and blindly trust the other. The goal is to become an informed advocate for your own health. But I noticed time and time again that people will come to me on a laundry list of pharmaceuticals. They never question the depletion, the side effects, the harm it’s causing. But they have anxiety over a tiny symptom using a God-given herb. Sometimes that fear creates the reaction rather than the herb itself.
God makes no mistakes. Our planet is covered with solutions to even the worst of ailments. And I can confidently tell you, the vast majority of them do not come from pharmaceuticals.
We are not deficient in chemicals. We are deficient in nature. Yet we fear nature more than we do chemicals.
