Amelia Earhart once said that the most difficult thing is the decision to act, and that is so true. We often spend more time thinking about what we need to do than actually doing it. We wait for the perfect timing, the perfect plan, or the confidence to take that first step.

However, initiative isn’t about having everything figured out. It’s about deciding to move forward, even amidst uncertainty. I encourage you to challenge yourself to stop waiting and start doing—the moment you decide to take action is the moment you start making progress.

A PT patient may say, “I feel fine,” then mention poor sleep, unusual fatigue, or a difficult week.

Another patient may feel discouraged even when recent visits suggest a steadier pattern.

These mixed signals are common, and they can make the opening conversation harder to organize.

ReadyOS gives clinicians and patients a shared reference point. Discover how in this blog:

How ReadyOS Supports Clearer Patient Conversations:

See how one ReadyOS readiness score can help clinicians discuss daily readiness, compare visits, and give patients clearer context for the plan ahead.

You don’t have to just survive physical therapy ownership…
Lead it forward instead.

We help physical therapy owners move from intuition and overload to clarity, alignment, and execution—so your clinic grows without depending on you being everywhere, every day.

This isn’t about doing more visits. It’s about building a business that works on purpose. Install systems—not just tools. https://neupttech.com

As Mark Twain said, “The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” It is easy to wait for the perfect time, the perfect plan, or for someone else to make the first move, but progress comes from taking action.

This month, our core value is initiative.
Initiative means seeing what needs to be done and stepping up before you are asked. You don’t have to have every step figured out—you just have to be willing to take the first one.

Don’t wait for the opportunity; create it and get started today.

Comfort is the enemy of excellence—and it’s costing you.

Growth happens when you’re willing to get uncomfortable. If you want something greater, you have to be willing to push beyond what feels easy.

As we close out September, it’s worth remembering that growth doesn’t stop when you become experienced. In fact, the more we know, the easier it is to assume we already have all the answers.

The best leaders, business owners, and teammates stay curious. They ask questions, listen, and remain willing to learn a better way—even when it challenges what they already know.

This week, stay open, curious, and teachable, because there is always another level of growth waiting for you.

We started “The Altruism Trap” series with a simple question:
CAN CARING TOO MUCH ACTUALLY HURT THE PRACTICE?

- We skipped lunch to rescue schedules.
- Collected another “next time.”
- Apologized for accountability.
- Hired whoever could start Monday.
- Lost money on visits and responded by seeing more visits.
- Avoided standards because “we’re like family.”
- Made ourselves indispensable.
- And discounted our services before anyone even objected.

Somewhere along the way, we confused sacrifice with service. They aren’t the same thing.

Healthy altruism looks more like:
- Compassion + Standards
- Generosity + Accountability
- Service + Sustainability
- Value + Confidence

+ Sometimes caring means saying no.
+ Sometimes it means enforcing the expectation.
+ Sometimes it means referring a patient to another great clinician.
+ Sometimes it means leaving an unsustainable payer.
+ Sometimes it means simply stating your price…
and being quiet.
+ Healthy businesses aren’t able to help fewer people.
+ They create the capacity to help more.

That’s the paradox behind this entire series:
Sometimes trying to help everyone today prevents us from building something capable of helping exponentially more people tomorrow.

- The goal was never to care LESS.
+ The goal is to lead your care BETTER.

Altruism may bring many of us into healthcare.
Leadership determines how many people we’re ultimately able to help.

Care deeply. Lead wisely. — Jason Waz

Now we want to hear from you:
Which Altruism Trap hit closest to home?
And even better…
Which one did we miss?

Really enjoyed this conversation. Matt has a way of getting past the surface-level business talk and into the stories, relationships, decisions-and mistakes—that actually shape the journey.

Grateful for the invitation and the opportunity to share a little of mine. Looking forward to the full episode. 🎙️🤝

And yes... ReadyOS came up. 👀
