A simple observation that can change everything 🤍
One of the first things I look at when assessing a baby is where their tongue rests.
It seems so simple, but tongue posture can tell us a lot about oral function, feeding skills, and overall development.
When the tongue is resting up against the roof of the mouth, it can help support:
👶 Better oral development
👶 Improved tongue strength and coordination
👶 More efficient feeding patterns
👶 Better suction and seal during feeds
👶 Healthy oral motor development
👶 Improved nasal breathing
When the tongue consistently rests low in the mouth, it can sometimes be a clue that baby is working harder than they should be.
And this is one of those things many parents are never taught to look for.
Small observations like this can help us better understand feeding difficulties before they become bigger frustrations.
💛 The Feeding Connections Collection was created to help parents understand these often-overlooked signs through therapist-created videos, oral motor exercises, body stretches, infant massage techniques, and feeding strategies that can be used right at home.
Because sometimes the smallest clues lead to the biggest breakthroughs.
