A simple observation that can change everything 🤍

One of the first things I look at when assessing a baby is where their tongue rests.

It seems so simple, but tongue posture can tell us a lot about oral function, feeding skills, and overall development.

When the tongue is resting up against the roof of the mouth, it can help support:

👶 Better oral development
👶 Improved tongue strength and coordination
👶 More efficient feeding patterns
👶 Better suction and seal during feeds
👶 Healthy oral motor development
👶 Improved nasal breathing

When the tongue consistently rests low in the mouth, it can sometimes be a clue that baby is working harder than they should be.

And this is one of those things many parents are never taught to look for.

Small observations like this can help us better understand feeding difficulties before they become bigger frustrations.

💛 The Feeding Connections Collection was created to help parents understand these often-overlooked signs through therapist-created videos, oral motor exercises, body stretches, infant massage techniques, and feeding strategies that can be used right at home.

Because sometimes the smallest clues lead to the biggest breakthroughs.

These are the questions new parents ask me every single day... 🤍

👶 Why won’t my baby take a pacifier?

👶 Why is feeding taking so long?

👶 Why does my baby click during feeds?

👶 Why is milk leaking from their mouth?

👶 Why can’t they stay latched?

👶 Is it normal for my baby to get tired while eating?

👶 Could tongue movement be affecting feeding?

The truth is, many feeding challenges come back to oral motor skills.

When babies struggle with tongue movement, coordination, jaw stability, or oral strength, feeding can become frustrating for both baby and parents.

And unfortunately, most new parents are never taught what to look for or how to help.

That’s exactly why I created my Oral Motor Guide. 💛

Inside you’ll learn:

✨ Oral motor exercises you can do at home
✨ How to support tongue movement and coordination
✨ Pacifier training techniques
✨ Oral play activities for development
✨ Ways to improve feeding efficiency
✨ Therapist-created videos that walk you through every step

Because parents deserve answers they can actually use.

You don’t have to spend hours searching Google wondering if what you’re seeing is normal.

A tongue or lip tie release may not always be the answer... 🤍

Sometimes the missing piece isn’t another procedure.

Sometimes it’s helping babies learn how to move, coordinate, and use the muscles they already have.

That’s where oral motor work, body stretching, and infant facial massage can make a HUGE difference.

These techniques can help support:

👶 Better tongue movement and coordination
👶 Reduced tension throughout the face and body
👶 Improved latch and suction
👶 More efficient feeding patterns
👶 Better oral awareness
👶 Increased comfort during feeds
👶 Improved regulation and organization

So many parents are surprised to see how much progress can happen when we focus on the whole baby—not just the mouth.

Before jumping straight to a revision, it’s important to understand WHY your baby is struggling and what support options may be available.

Sometimes babies need help releasing tension.

Sometimes they need help building strength and coordination.

And sometimes they need both.

💛 The Feeding Connections Collection teaches parents exactly how to use oral motor exercises, body stretches, infant facial massage, and feeding strategies at home through therapist-created videos and easy-to-follow handouts.

Because parents deserve tools they can confidently use between therapy sessions.

You don’t have to keep guessing what your baby needs.

If your baby startles easily... watch this 🤍

One of the first things I like to do before oral motor work or facial massage is provide calming sensory input.

Why?

Because babies who startle easily often have nervous systems that are working overtime.

When we slow down and prepare the body first, we can help support:

👶 Better regulation
👶 Reduced startle responses
👶 Increased body awareness
👶 Improved tolerance for touch
👶 More successful oral motor activities
👶 Calmer feeding experiences

Sometimes the preparation is just as important as the exercise itself.

When babies feel safe and organized, they’re often better able to participate in feeding, oral motor activities, and developmental play.

This is one of those simple strategies parents can begin using right away that can make a BIG difference over time.

💛 The Feeding Connections Collection teaches parents how oral reflexes, sensory input, oral motor skills, body tension, and feeding all work together through therapist-created videos and easy-to-follow handouts designed for real life.

You don’t have to keep guessing what your baby needs.
