Today was a special day at Brewster Place. A flag that had flown over the Capitol building in Washington D.C. was donated to Brewster Place by Capitol Federal and representatives from the Girl Scouts presented the colors. Residents Lt. Col. Larry Beam, USA (Ret.) reminded us of the reasons for the 13 folds in the flag and Capt. Herschel Stroud, USAF (Ret.) played Taps on his bugle while the flag was raised. It was a very poignant event.

Each year on the first Friday in June, people participate in National Doughnut or Donut Day. This food holiday celebrates the delicious doughnut and honors the Salvation Army Lassies. In case you didn't know, the Salvation Army Lassies are the women who served doughnuts to soldiers during WWI. It's an interesting story!
