🚨 IMPORTANT RECALL ALERT FOR EINSTEIN PEDIATRICS FAMILIES

Parents and caregivers, the FDA and CDC have announced a voluntary recall of ALL lots of Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Powdered Infant Formula.

The recall is due to a potential risk of Clostridium botulinum contamination, which can cause infant botulism. These products were distributed nationally at Target, Target.com, and Nara.com between July 2025 and June 2026.

If you have this formula, please stop using it immediately.

What you need to do immediately:
1ļøāƒ£ STOP using this formula right away if you have it at home.
2ļøāƒ£ Take a photo of the bottom of the can to record the lot code before safely disposing of it or keeping it out of reach.
3ļøāƒ£ Wash any surfaces, bottles, or scoops that may have come into contact with the formula using hot, soapy water.

Symptoms to monitor:
If your infant has consumed this formula, please closely monitor them for signs of infant botulism, which can take several weeks to appear. Key symptoms include: Constipation , Poor feeding (weak sucking/difficulty swallowing), Weak or altered cry, Low muscle tone or generalized weakness, Loss of head control

šŸ‘‰ If your baby has consumed this formula and is showing any of these signs, seek immediate medical care or contact our office right away. We are here to support you and help guide you through safe feeding alternatives.

When we think about healthy sleep for our preschoolers, our minds almost always go straight to the total number of hours: Are they getting the recommended 10 to 13 hours a night? But a fascinating new study being presented at the SLEEP 2026 annual meeting reveals an equally important piece of the puzzle: sleep consistency.

Researchers discovered that irregular sleep schedules—meaning high day-to-day variability in bedtime, wake-up times, and total duration—are linked to lower performance on memory and vocabulary tasks in children around age 4.

Most surprisingly, this cognitive dip occurred even when children were hitting their target total hours of sleep. In short, a chaotic sleep schedule can actively disrupt the brain's ability to consolidate language and memory, even if your child catches up on hours later. Shifting sleep times between weekdays and weekends (what researchers call "social jet lag") also played a role in lower cognitive scores.

Keeping bedtimes and wake times within a consistent 30-minute window every day of the week helps keep your child's internal clock aligned, laying a strong foundation for learning, growth, and daytime behavior.

The latest data from the Fairfax Health District highlights why travel prep is so crucial. This year alone, our community has seen travel-associated cases of Dengue and Malaria from families returning from abroad. Alarmingly, the vast majority of malaria cases reported in our district involved travelers who did not take protective prophylaxis medication before, during, or after their trip. Many vector-borne illnesses (like those carried by mosquitoes) are entirely preventable with the right guidance, prescriptions, or vaccines.

At Einstein Pediatrics, we offer comprehensive Travel Visits to review your itinerary, ensure your kids are up to date on required immunizations, and provide necessary preventative medications. Let's make sure your family brings home wonderful memories—not an unexpected illness.

Book your travel consultation at least 4–6 weeks before you fly!

More shots, but less "work" for the immune system? 🧬 Here is the science of why today’s pediatric vaccine schedule looks so different than it did when I started practicing in the 2000s.

Thanks to modern protein purification, protecting children against 17 diseases today requires fewer immunological components than just one vaccine did 100 years ago.

Is there any sound better than a baby’s giggle? 🄰 It melts our hearts, but it’s also doing some serious heavy lifting for their brain development!

Laughter is actually a major developmental milestone that happens way before your little one starts talking. Here’s what those sweet chuckles are telling us:

✨ 3–4 Months: It starts as a reflex to sensory things (like tickles!).
✨ 6 Months: It becomes voluntary and deeply social. Your baby is learning to mirror your expressions and judge if a new situation is safe.
🧠 Stress Reliever: Laughter triggers a rush of happy hormones (like oxytocin and dopamine) for both you and your baby, lowering stress and boosting connection.

Tip for today: Watch out for "technoference"! Putting the phone away for a few minutes of uninterrupted playtime gives your baby the perfect chance to practice their social skills—and gives you both a healthy dose of joy.

Have you heard your baby’s first real laugh yet? Tell us what sparked it in the comments below! šŸ‘‡

ā˜€ļø Confused by the sunscreen aisle? Let’s break down exactly how to protect your child’s skin this summer!

When picking a sunscreen for kids, always look for "Broad-Spectrum" protection with an SPF of 30 or higher. We highly recommend physical (mineral) sunscreens containing zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. These sit right on top of the skin to block UV rays mechanically, which is much gentler on sensitive skin and significantly cuts down on the risk of breakouts or allergic reactions.

šŸ›‘ IMPORTANT INFANT RULE: Did you know that babies under 6 months old should NOT use sunscreen? Because an infant's skin is incredibly thin and sensitive, it absorbs topically applied chemicals much more easily, putting them at risk for reactions. For your littlest ones, the gold standard of protection is keeping them completely out of direct sunlight. Rely on shade, lightweight long clothing, and wide-brimmed hats to keep them cool and protected!

Remember to reapply every 2 hours! šŸ’¦

Dr. Martin is officially back in the office after an incredible trip traveling through Germany! While he was exploring, he managed to cross paths with someone pretty special while sitting on a bench. Can you guess who it is?

Finding our namesake abroad feels incredibly fitting right now, as this June marks the official 10th anniversary of Einstein Pediatrics! We are so proud to have spent the last decade partnering with Northern Virginia families to keep our community's children healthy, happy, and thriving. Thank you for trusting us with your family's care for the past ten years, and we look forward to many more.

We would love to hear from you as we celebrate this milestone. Drop your congratulations for the team!
