🛑 Time to retire the Benadryl!

If you’re still keeping diphenhydramine on hand for everyday allergies or hives, pediatric guidelines have officially moved on. Benadryl wears off too fast, causes unpredictable drowsiness (or wild hyperactivity!), and carries a higher risk of dosing errors.

For modern, safe, 24-hour relief, pediatricians recommend second-generation antihistamines like Claritin, Zyrtec, or Allegra. They’re safer, last all day, and don't knock your kids out.

Navigating ADHD can feel overwhelming, but you do not have to do it alone. We are excited to share a fantastic local resource for our patient families from Fairfax Mental Health and Wellness.

Starting Wednesday, October 7th, clinical psychologist Dr. Megan Thomas will lead Supporting Your Child with ADHD, a virtual seven-week series specifically designed for parents and caregivers of children ages 6 to 12.

Program Details:

Dates: Wednesdays, October 7th – November 18th

Time: 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM

Format: Fully virtual (join easily from home or work)

Target Audience: Parents and caregivers of children ages 6–12

What the Group Covers:

Understanding ADHD: Identifying behavioral patterns and recognizing common presentations.

Practical Daily Tools: Actionable routines to support emotional regulation, focus, and smoother home transitions.

Connection & Communication: Techniques to reduce household conflict, build trust, and empower your child.

Insurance & Registration:

Sessions are covered by participating insurance plans, and out-of-network paperwork is provided for reimbursement.

RSV season is right around the corner, and keeping our tiniest patients safe is our top priority.

Starting October 1st, seasonal RSV protection (nirsevimab) becomes available. Unlike traditional vaccines that take weeks to build immunity, this monoclonal antibody delivers immediate, ready-made defense on day one—cutting infant hospitalizations and ER visits by 80% to 90%.

👶 Who needs it? All infants under 8 months entering their first RSV season, plus eligible high-risk toddlers up to 19 months.

🤰 Did you receive the RSV vaccine during pregnancy? If you got the maternal RSV vaccine while pregnant, your baby already carries those protective antibodies from you! That means your newborn does not need the nirsevimab shot.
