Coffee, conversation and connection!

Recently, GW Hospital CEO Jason Barrett hosted Java with Jason, an open conversation with
front-line team members. Over coffee, staff had the opportunity to discuss priorities, ask questions, share insights and bring forward ideas directly with hospital leadership.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness, encourage regular screenings and stand alongside those impacted by breast cancer.

At the GW Comprehensive Breast Center, patients have access to preventive, diagnostic and treatment services, including 2D and 3D mammography, advanced breast imaging, surgical options and therapies such as radiation, chemotherapy and hormone therapy. The center also offers education and support resources to help patients and their families throughout their care journey.

We’re proud to welcome Kara Couch, MS, CRNP, CWCN-AP, FAAWC, as the new Assistant Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO) of GW Hospital!

Since joining GW in 2014, Kara has made a tremendous impact through her leadership of Wound Care and Employee Health Services, her commitment to evidence-based patient care and her passion for collaboration. With 24 years of experience as a wound care Nurse Practitioner, more than 50
peer-reviewed publications and extensive teaching and research experience, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her new role.

“I am extremely excited to start as ACNO,” Kara shared. “I’m honored by the faith the C-Suite has in my leadership abilities to execute the stellar vision of Patti Horgas, CNO. We are redefining nursing here at GW and I cannot wait to partner with the outstanding nursing, physician and operations team members and leaders as we move into this new era of professional nursing. I am very proud of the work we do here at GW; most importantly, keeping the patient at the center of our focus always.”

Ardalan (Allan) Kiani was named August’s Employee of the Month after receiving the most kudos from his colleagues for exemplifying teamwork, professionalism and excellence. Allan consistently goes above and beyond to keep the lab running smoothly while maintaining high standards for quality and timely specimen processing.

Congratulations also go to Robert Boardley, our August “Stop The Line” Champion! Robert was recognized for identifying five situations where he put patient safety first, ensuring appropriate testing and care for our patients.

Wound care expertise from GW Hospital is making an impact around the world! Kara Couch, NP, Director of Wound Care Services, recently traveled to Adelaide, Australia, as an invited keynote speaker at the Wounds Australia 2026 meeting.

Kara shared her expertise across several important areas of wound care, from interdisciplinary approaches to healing and navigating complex healthcare systems to trauma-related wounds. She also led discussions and collaborated with wound care experts from around the globe, all with a shared focus on advancing patient-centered care and best practices.

Her contributions extend beyond the conference, as Kara also recently co-authored a peer-reviewed paper focused on best practices for negative pressure wound therapy.

Congratulations, Kara, on representing GW Hospital and helping advance wound care both at home and around the world!

With more than 25 years of experience in healthcare technology, Jeffrey will lead the hospital’s medical equipment management program, including technology assessment and integration, equipment planning, regulatory compliance, patient safety and equipment reliability. He looks forward to partnering with clinical leadership and teams across the hospital to ensure our clinicians and staff have the safe, reliable technology they need to provide exceptional care.
