This Pride Month, we’re celebrating every LGBTQ+ teen and young person 🌈
•
and we’re also having an honest conversation with the adults who love and support them. 💜
🏳️🌈the reality for many LGBTQ+ youth:
LGBTQ+ adolescents face disproportionately higher rates of anxiety, depression, and suicidal ideation compared to their peers. Not because of who they are, but because of the environments they navigate
•
Minority stress, family rejection, bullying, and the pressure to hide their identity take a serious toll on developing minds and hearts.
💕 What affirming adults should know:
Family acceptance is protective ❤️ Research shows that LGBTQ+ youth with even one accepting adult in their life have significantly better mental health outcomes. You can be that person.
Silence can feel like rejection 🧡Not acknowledging a teen’s identity — even with good intentions — can leave them feeling invisible and alone. Use their name. Use their pronouns. Ask how they’re doing.
School can be a source of harm 💛Many LGBTQ+ teens experience bullying, exclusion, or discrimination at school. Ask the young people in your life how safe they feel — and advocate loudly when they don’t.
Mental health struggles aren’t inevitable 💚 LGBTQ+ teens thrive in affirming environments. Acceptance isn’t just kind — it’s clinically protective.
I love you no matter what” matters more than you know 💙Those words can save a life. Say them. Mean them. Repeat them.
If you’re an LGBTQ+ teen reading this: 💜you are not the problem. The world is still catching up to you. Hold on. 🌈
